Thanked: 6CuchillerÃa Comercial Viñas, Atocha street, Nº 62
It's supposed to be one of the best cutlery in Madrid. You won't get a Filly for 20 bucks but... I think they have them in the 100€ range. Return the tickets for the bullfighting and go for one, bullfighting is a barbaric shame to my country.
The bulls are subjected to violent torture during the breed to alter their behavior, and make them more agressive. If the fight itself isn't torture enough, right before the fight they are tortured again to weaken them, they are deprived of food and water, they are beaten in the testicles and kidneys, heavy sandbags hanging from their necks for hours, put grease on their eyes to difficult their vision, and a long etcetera.
Here are some details on the torture, I'm sorry it's in spanish

I just want you to have info to decide if you take part on all that, since all this is conveniently covered to the public and tourism. Hemingway didn't talked about that too.
Edit: If you like wines with a good body forget the Rioja and try a Ribera del Duero, ask for a Protos

Thanked: 402The way animals are treated in Spain is the reason I don't go there anymore.
I've seen things with horses and dogs on the baleares and the canaries, that really made me cry.

That brings me some good memories. I used to live a couple of blocks from Plaza de las Ventas.
Make a note to visit Plaza Mayor and all the "mesones" in the area, and bring your lady for dinner to "Las Cuevas de Luis Candelas", you'll enjoy it.

Thanked: 402Well I think the spanish have sufficiently proved their national identity with that show.
So now they could move on to something else.

Thanked: 278Well, I don't think it was phrased as a question, but I think "I like going to bullfights on Acid" is from Caddyshack.

Thanked: 317I definitely agree with the comments about the cruelty of bull fighting.
I LOVE a good steak, be it beef, sheep, venison, or whatever, and I don't even mind killing the animal myself if I need to (I grew up on a sheep ranch and did just that many times over), but bull fighting is barbaric to the extreme.
The bulls are stuck full of spears like a giant furry pin cushion, tormented relentlessly until the exertion, pain and blood loss makes them slow and weak, and are finally ritually sacrificed by sword.
It's supposed to be a big show of manliness and bravery, but before the bull even get's close to the matador, it's already half dead.
Sick, cowardly, and cruel.
BIG +1 to returning the bull fight tickets and spending the money on something more useful.

C'mon y'all, I can understand the cruelty of it and empathize with your positions. However, it is traditional, and obviously a dream of of Ray's. I'm happy that he's getting to fulfill it, and with his wife to boot.
