A good article on commercial SKS rifles. Mine is a Briklee out of El Monte, CA.

That's what I had, Tom. There were thousands being sold, for under $100 . I can only imagine what the guy, who bought the lots of these, that we sold at the gun shows, actually paid for them. Probably, a sack of rice.
They made some zytel mags for them, but they would never feed right, and cause jams. So sripper clips, it was.
Next was finding the right ammo, that would slide thru the clips, without hanging up. These were the two best

Thanked: 3224I think what you have said is underlining the differences between our two countries, especially the constitutional aspect. The Canadian oath makes no mention of a constitution and even if it did our constitution does not expressly grant the right to keep and bear arms.
For some reason, I don't think most Canadians feel the need to be armed for self protection or concealed carry. Where that mindset comes from I have no idea. Just as I have no idea of what it is like to live in a society where real or imagined fears drives the need for guns for self protection and concealed carry.
I certainly agree with your view of what are troubling issues with average citizens carrying a gun. I would have the same issues here if were allowed in Canada.
A common border is not the only thing that differentiates our two countries.

Thanked: 56Our politicians stoke fears of how we're under attack at any moment. I was at someone's house in the middle of nowhere and they had guns stashed everywhere they sat. When they found out I keep my guns in the closet they were shocked, "but you live in the CITY".
I was looking up crime statistics the other month and found a bunch of "safest cities in..." lists and couldn't understand why places with more crime were deemed "safer" (per capita, violent and non violent, all taken into account). Turns out one of the factors in all of them was polling data of how worried we are about crime. Hmmm, it's like the snake eating is own tail.If you're wondering I'm probably being sarcastic.

Like you, I live in a pretty liberal-controlled big city. What's bothering lots of folks (regardless of political leanings) is what they see happening in other so disposed big cities. Things can get out of hand quickly and no help may be forthcoming.
I also see crime going up in my town. Criminals are becoming more emboldened. Lots finally jailed have been allowed to accumulate long criminal history. Good chance they will go free again. Why worry?
Been around here most of my life and have seen it decline more and more.
Huge jump in new anti-gun types acquiring firearms everywhere, whether they admit it or not.
Self-preservation is a strong desire, eh?
Not so worried myself as long as I am not deprived of my protection. That includes police as well.
Oh well. Gets political. Not cool here.

Thanked: 56Party Pooper.
I don't exactly have cool guns. But one of my favorites to own in my A3-O3. Not my favorite to shoot because it takes me a minute or two to figure out how to use the peep site. I bought it to help my dad with feral hogs, but peep sites in the dark is even a bigger joke. Once I do get it lined up it shoots nice and straight, though. This is not mine, though. Mine is at my folks place where they may use it.
My other favorite to own and shoot is a Winchester lever action 22. I bought it when I was 12 for $200. My dad was a bit displeased because he was itching to haggle. But once I heard the price I excitedly 12 year old whispered "I have $200 in my bank account". Seemed like kismet to me.If you're wondering I'm probably being sarcastic.

You don't need no exotic old weapons to be hurting on the dishing out end. Try firing around 50 rounds of slugs from a 12 gauge and tell me how yer shoulder feels.
Personally I have serious arthritis in my shoulder from a career of doing that.No matter how many men you kill you can't kill your successor-Emperor Nero
