7om,
I have no problem with Calgacus having his opinion, nor do I have a problem with his leaving. Americans die all the time defending this right and trying to help others achieve it.
The probelm I have is that he had to leave SRP altogether. Not just stay out of a thread he did not have common ground in. It was pretty clear from the start that this thread was not for him, but he chose to use it as his platform for insulting people that he would never interface with and then slam the door on his permanent way out whilst calling us uncivilized and uncultured in the process. There are very fine people here who would lay down their lives protecting people like him. There was no reason to posture himself the way he did.
I respect YOUR position on firearm ownership. I even respect Calgacus' opinion on his OWN firearm ownership. I just don't respect Calgacus' opinion on MY firearm ownership.
Cheers
David

I have to agree with you, there was no need for the insults, speaking of which, I still don't know what a doofus is

Thanked: 488Well said David and that pretty much sums it up. I'm also afraid that if we don't pay much closer attention we'll be in the same boat.

Thanked: 4887om thanks for putting your opinion in. I agree he has every right, especially here in the US, to say whatever he feels. I just wish he had not been so condescending as well as making it personal and being so abrasive towards those of us in the US.
I agree many of the people I know and work with that are interested in the shooting sports are thoughtful and abhor the idea of doing any kind of violence toward another with a weapon of any kind. Many, myself included, have been trained to do violence in the protection of others as well as putting ourselves in harms way to protect them.Although that is the last thing I would want. I have lost many friends over those three decades of service doing just that. Therein lies my reaction to his comments. It angered me as you can tell but it does fly in the face of those who would gladly put themselves on the line to protect him yourself included.

Thanked: 1936I too enjoy hunting, competitive shooting, & collecting. I hope that I never have to fire a weapon "out of anger", meaning self defence for myself, family, or nation. I look at several of my weapons like the U.S. refers to it's nuclear weapons: It's a deterrant. If a bad guy thinks in their mind that I "may" be able to defend myself, family, or nation, he's more than likely to move on to the next target.
