Mustache Wax Help Please
I've been growing the winter beard since the holidays and haven't trimmed the beard at all, but the mustache, yes. I have a bar tending sift at the Art Gallery on Friday and want to keep my hairs in order since most companies insist that you be clean shaven. You all know I like to shave and will trim around the goatee, but I'm having fun with this one and thought I'd try and keep it going for another month or so.
I bought some Clubman Mustache Wax and tried to apply it with relatively dismal results. I know a few of you guys keep tended beards so I'm asking for you assistance in looking swell this weekend.
Some points:
1. The wax is cold and stiff which makes me wonder if soaking the tube in hot water will help or hurt.
2. Water on the beard seems to eliminate any beneficial effects of the wax so I'm guessing my beard needs to be bone dry to use the stuff.
3. The only way I can get it to hold some of the more stubborn hairs is if I glob it all together and then it looks like I've got my hairs embedded in wax.
4. Using a comb gets rid of the globs, but also eliminates the hold.
5. Messing with it for too long makes the wax ball up and then I look like I've got mutant beard dandruff or something.
Can you set me straight before Friday, please?

No Moustache experience, but this is something google turned up:

I don't think warming it in water will harm it any and might actually make it easier to spread.
The clubman "wax" desolves in water. So yes. Your goat would need to be dry otherwise the "wax" breaks down (makes it nice when you need to get it out though)
Unfortunately I only used the clubman a couple times. The last time I was drinking a cup of coffee and ingested some. Terrible stomache ache the rest of the day. The clubman works fine for some but like you I have some pretty stubborn as well as coarse hairs so I moved up to some of the true waxes. I've been using Oregon Wild hair for the better part of the last year. Great hold with a pleasant light scent. Some folks have used hair styling products lime pommade(?) or other like items, might give something like that a shot.
Best of luck,
Michael

i went ahead and posted to this thread rather than start a new one..
i decided to try and grow a beard for the first time in my life.. it's been 6 weeks and i suppose it looks ok.. but not great.. problems are my hair growth is very light on the cheeks.. i have the fully grown chin strap and a a fairly ok moustache and what not.. but i'd like to try some waxes or pomades.. for a few reasons.. in spite of having nearly black hair.. my beard has a lot of blondish auburn hairs.. is there something i can comb in to darken them and make my look darker? also.. i'd really like a nice scent.. if i could have a moustache smelling of vanilla.. that'd be awesome..
anyway.. what do you guys suggest?

Thanked: 1185+1 I've amputated my handlebars for the summer but Oregon Wild Hair is my wax of choice. When the bars come back in the Fall, that's what I'll use. I've also heard very good things about Firehouse 'Stash Wax. As much as I love most things Clubman, their moustache wax sucks. Rather like applying cake frosting to you face hairs.

Thanked: 1371M(o)ustache Wax
I've been growing my 'stache out for quite awhile. I've just been combing it straight down, but it occurred to me this evening that I could be doing some shaping on it.
Does anyone here use wax? If so, what do you prefer?
Any pointers on how to use it?
