Thanked: 0I occassionally use brylcreem, but prefer pomades. Lately, I've been using hair tonics (chiefly Lucky Tiger and Vitalis) in my hair to keep it neat and tidy.

gotta bail on this thread
Gotta bail before I tork somebody off. Remember -- lather, rinse, repeat. Dry it and you're done.
Don't get hung up on hanging hairs.

My grandpa used Brylcreem and Williams Shaving soap and a DE; so I'll always have fond memories of it. I've never thought of using it myself. I've recently tried Pinaud Eau de Portugal hair tonic and it works well. It's not stiff, has a slightly citrusy smell.
I may buy some brylcreem just to scare my wife and try if for when I get my hair cut short (I have very fine hair and it stands up much too easily when short).

Brylcreem isn't stiff at all, it just feels like you have a conditioner left in your hair, as long as you don't use too much. If you do use too much it's still not stiff, it's just like your hair looks wet all day long.

I remember Brylcreem very well; my junior-high and high-school pictures demonstrate the use of too much, in a vain attempt to subjugate my cowlick.
These days it's, yes, Pinaud Clubman gel. Of course what I put on my hair (such as it is) is also increasingly a moot point.

Thanked: 1I remember my uncle using Brylcreem. He was the classic 50's greaser up into the mid 80's. If I ever grow my hair back out I may try it just to make my wife go "WTF!!" LOL

I used Brylcreem for a bit, but now I use a water based pomade instead - Lay Rite. If I need a bit of shine, I put a few drops of Vitalis in before... My hair is too fine to stay up if I put in a heavy grease, and I can't get the sides tight with it either.

I'm 23 and actually use Brylcreem. I like it a lot more than the Gels, Waxes and Pomades. I use only a dab, because it really will do ya. I'll use a little more if I am going to anything formal like Church etc. At the moment i have pretty short hair, but enough to comb it to the side. When my hair gets longer i'm going for the Don Draper look! Love it!

layrite is good stuff.. smells wonderful and really holds.. but it doesn't allow the ladies to run their fingers through your hair.. and that's not a sacrifice i'm willing to make.
