I think I'm going to take a page out of Earcutter's manual and put my humis in a closed case.
It really works for me Yardie. I use a wooden chest because I want everything to "breath" as most of the sticks I have in the chest will be aged (I just can't smoke enough to keep them less than a year or two lol). Of course, it's hell on the chest - the lid is warping every which way with the humidity... but whatever lol.

The kitty litter works like a charm (keeps it at the high 60's to 70 RH range) - you just have to make sure you have the right one. I use this stuff - unscented of course.

I know some place their humis into tupperware - and that works, but note (in case you didn't know) that if you do place your humi's into a plastic container that is a completely sealed environment, you would want to make sure to open it now and again to let some fresh air into it.

Like I say - it works for me. As it stands now, the humis I have in my chest need to be "tended" too about 1/3 of the time I need to tend to my outside humi needs. Moreover the other thing about the wooden chest that I think makes a difference is that the temperature fluctuations that normally occur in the fall, were a non-issue for my chest kept humis this year. I can never figure out why that happens when my house is kept at 70 all year round??

Man... bad day on the cigar front!! The weather is rather nice here in N/E Kansas today. Nice enough to head out for a cigar - WOOT! Until...

Effort # 1. A couple of years ago Cu-Avana Intenso Punisher's were getting some pretty good reviews. So one drunken night, being genuinely intrigued - I bought a 5er.

You can see a review here - probably one of the reviews I read that very night - if you are inclined: Cu-Avana Intenso Punisher - PVNISHER - Cigar Reviews | Beer Pairings | Casas Fumando

When I sobered up - I received shipment and threw them into the depths of my humi. I don't know what I was thinking - I hate flavored cigars lol. They dip the tip in a red pepper solution to add zing/kick.

Well - I lit up today because... well, because I had to smoke one one day. It was awful! LOL - it was really awful, and worse yet, that tip with a red pepper solution to add kick, was terrible. Oh well. I couldn't finish it. That's rare .

Effort # 2. So I figured a couple hours later, being the kids were playing so well together, to give something else a try. I dug through the humi and noted a cigar whose band looked like it had been water-logged. Somehow the stick get wet. How? I don't know - but the band looked like it has swam in water at some point!!

Anyway it was a 601 La Bomba - love them. So I figured I would spark it up - the stick looked like it had dried up and was ready to smoke. Had to be a year old at least.

As soon as I lit it, it tunneled like a champ! The wrapper and binder were clearly way more damp than the filler... man what a bad buzz!! I had to continually touch it up. Not only did it burn poorly - it tasted wrong. I know this cigar well - so take my word for it when I say wrong lol. I couldn't finish it either.

Well - that's been my day... can't win em all I guess.

that really sucks. I had a undercrown tunnel on me the other day too. luckily I was able to fix it with a few touch ups. I think I might have to get a new humi. I don't think that thing is holding in the humidity correctly. it was a cheap start humi I got on sale from CI. I think its time to move up to a 125 ct humi. anyone have good recommendations? I want to get a quality one this time.

Pretty sure you have all seen this pepper bomb before. Great dog-walking gar.
