Every time I think about getting a larger humidor, I then start thinking about a mechanical humidifier like and Oasis. I have not used an Oasis myself but I have heard decent things about them.

Good luck finding what will work for you!! If I ever get a larger humidor and an oasis, I will post my results with it.

The biggest humi I have now is a 'Treasure Dome'...which, IMO, doesn't justify a mechanical device.

Were I to upgrade (re: Approval from the Wife), that that would be a different story.

I have used a couple of the Oasis models and they all did the job well. In my 200 count humi I used the 3 of the large Boveda packs and I can keep 67% which is my preferred humidity for Habanos.
In my Staebel large humi I always add a 1/2 teaspoon of isoprophyl alcohol every time I change or add distilled water. No mold issues ever.

This is the first time I have heard about using isopropyl alcohol. It makes sense, kind of, and if it works it is that much better!! Maybe I am overthinking this, I assume that small amount is not changing the flavor of your sticks?

I am open to a new and better mousetrap.

lol - I really like my Heartfelt beads Yardie. I go overboard with the volume, but I am ok with that - but 1lb per humi is a min for me so that I don't have to maintain them as often. That and they restore the RH far faster after you open the box (my humi's are 120cts).


Here is the way I use my beads brother - it's a system that took some time to trust - but once it's working, bob's your uncle.

Assuming your humi is seasoned; take the foam out of those black plastic humidifiers that come with the humi and go on the inside of the lid - fill them with beads. Take the beads you have left and divide them in half. Place one half on the top shelf, and the other on the bottom.

Moisten the beads on the bottom. Leave the top un-moistened. Never moisten the ones in the black containers.

As the beads both absorb and emit, when the bottom beads are moistened, the humidity travels up and moistens the top beads and creates an equilibrium.

If you do it that way - you should never have an issue with over moistening the beads. Moreover, once the system settles down, you will have to moisten the beads very little short of your humi leaking excessively.

I am really pleased with the system and the beads.

I enjoyed a Cuban Cohiba Esplendita although a Monte Cristo #2 is probably my favorite. I picked up a bunch from Honduras and they are a nice cigar but no name on them.

So this is Oliva's flagship cigar. Is it a $10.00 cigar? If you love leather it is. But having smoked the "V" - a $5.00 cigar - it's hard to recommend this stick over the V.
