Gurkha weekend for me...
...started off with a Pinker on Friday night, bit of a pricey stick but thoroughly enjoyable! Don't like the intimidating size fool you, complex flavours that aren't a 'kick in the teeth' at all. My third so far and all have been just as enjoyable.
Had a Cellar Reserve on Sat at the dog park...read some reviews that this stick was over hyped, but IMHO I cannot agree with that at all. Great stick, great stick indeed; will become part of my regular rotation as well.
La Flor Dominicana Double Ligero Chisel Gorda, 5 1/2 x 48.
"Crafted to look like a mini wedge, this dark cigar has a notably firm draw, though each puff is full of pepper and spice that become hearty with leather and more intense as the cigar smokes. Impressive power and balance".
Nice cigar!

Oddly enough I had one of these yesterday as well! If you like the double ligero, I strongly suggest the CAO Lx2 (Ligero times two).
Couldn't help but notice, you used a punch on the chisel?
Today I had an Alec Bradley Connecticut...yet another great stick from this house!
First cigar this week Alec Bradley - Connecticut , this is my second one and again not impressed with it but the draw is good and I'm not going to waste it so ill finish it off haha
Yeah, simple cigar punch.Quote:

Punch Rare Corojo Champion Figurado, 4 1/2 x 60.
"Shaped like a little bowling pin, this figurado is spicy and woody with sweet cedar notes and a touch of bitterness on the finish".
Interesting and tasty cigars.

Everyone does indeed have their own tastes, I enjoyed the Connecticut a fair amount; found it oddly similar to a Monte #2...although obviously differences were noted.
Truthfully the only stick I've had from the AB house that didn't impress me was their Black Market (and I've tried 3 of them to date...). It was suggested that I let it age for a 'bit' in the humi beforehand, I currently have 2 that have been in for 6 months; will post a review when done.
I've had numerous My Father cigars and yet to have an issue with any of them (draw/burn/flavour), this morning I had a (My Father) Flor De Las Antillas and was again suitable impressed (#1 Cigar of 2012 Cigar Aficionado). My cigar monger is selling them for a very decent price (up here at least), I think I'll have to stock up on them!!
I agree completely. Each persons pallet differs, I on the other hand love the Black Market haha :)
I have a few Flor de Las Antillas in my humidor now have yet to try them but really looking forward it.
Really the couple I've been dying to try are Liga Privada - Undercrown , Hoyo De Monterrey Epicure l , and the above mentioned La Flor Dominicana Double Ligero.
Perhaps the aging will make all the difference for my Black Markets...? :)
I truly cannot remember if I tried the Liga Privada, however I know I've tried the Undercrown; if memory serves me correct it wasn't a bad stick but it didn't blow my hair straight back. I've tried a few Warlocks and I would take that over the UC.
Again...YMMV!
Cheers!
EDIT I HAVE tried the Liga Privada and would definitely recommend it!

Suday Afternoon recovery smoke :)
My Fathers - Flor de las Antillas
5" x 50 Robusto
It was not what I expected truthfully, I thought it would be better.
It reminded me very much of a Romeo y Julieta #3 taste wise.
It was a good cigar mind you, I just expected more and was hoping for a richer more fermented flavour.
Cheers fellas :)

Well keeping with the theme ;)
Working on some stuff in the garage and decided to light up the Flor de Los Antillas. Flakey ash on it and isn't holding on, oh well... Seems okay so far im only about a third in and nothing is standing out so far .... Clouds of smoke and great draw though which I love. I have 2 more that ill keep in my humidor for a while see how they are In a few months.
Rick
I've heard excellent things about the Liga Privada t-52 , also the same line the no.9 , unico and the "my Uzi weighs a ton" basically anything by Drew Estate has nothing but great reviews. I've been told they're hard to get in Canada though.
Yardie are you a member on CCF ( Canadian Cigar Forum) ?
Rick
Seems the Flor de las Antillas is making it's rounds!
Had one on the way into work this morning, and while I enjoyed it very much I dare say I prefer the My Father No 3 (or 4). They both have a fantastic draw, but I find the No 3/4 to have more complex flavours; I found the FdlA to have the same flaky ash as well however it didn't fall off easy (good thing).
I tried the My Uzi Weighs a Ton (twice)and it was quite enjoyable, however I felt it was pricier than it should have been. Much like the Quesada Q d'etat Molotov (and Howitzer), a great stick but far from wallet friendly.
Where (approx) is home Rick? There is a place in Sherwood Park (Alberta) that has a fantastic selection of sticks...PM inbound.
I received a PM a while ago from another cigar afficionado on CGN, I just signed up now!
Elitists will certainly scoff but my stogie du jour is the much maligned Phillies Titan. To me at least, this is the cigar equivalent of Prince Albert or Granger pipe tobacco. Phillies Titans are machine made and not very expensive but but like PA and Granger, what they lack in wow factor they more than make up for in just consistently good, serviceable smokes. Don't get me wrong, it's no La Aroma de Cuba, Brickhouse or Montecristo but it will provide an enjoyable smoke just the same and I can smoke several a day without completely breaking the bank.
Surely I'm not the only one who has marveled at the utilitarian goodness of the Phillies Titan, am I? Where the hell is Devil Pup when you need him? :)
@1OldGI
I've seen you post about the Phillies Titan before but even stateside I've not found them.
I'll keep lookin :)
Mike
LOL!! Cigar smoking is as personal endeavor my friend and one that is only corrupted by concerning yourself with what others smoke. Once you understand your pallet... if a $0.75 stick gives you as much pleasure as a $12.00 one, who cares?!
It's always about the time you spend with the cigar...
And that leads me to my point - at least you are smoking a cigar lol!! My humidor has been sorely "underfunded" as of late! But I have a couple of shipments coming. Moreover, I plan on a few more to get it up to par. But in the mean-time, what I have spent in cigars "for me" has been a small fortune and I am doing the old salt test to make sure these baby's aren't abused when they come :).

I can't wait!!
GI- haven't smoked a Philly but I'm turned off by the paper wrapper. I'd rather smoke a cheap mixed filler cigar with a leaf binder and wrapper.
That being said, you should smoke what you like.
Michael
Currently smoking a Perdomo Limited Oscuro Churchill. I don't think they've made these in a few years, but I'm in pretty decent shape with seven boxes left. I'd buy more if I could find them, but I'm a cigar pig.

Yea... I'd say you're in good shape. haha Share the Wealth!
This past weekend I had my first Drew Estate - Undercrown Robusto (picture #1) , by golly was it tasty. So tasty I had a chance to buy 10 locally from a BOTL so I jumped on em. Tonite having another Undercrown this time a gran toro (picture #3) gifted for a friend out west.

An AVO Heritage with some amazing scotch.
Hoyo de Monterrey Epicure Especial is nice Cuban cigar to meet evening.:)

Had a Trinidad Reyes after lunch on my drive back to work. Delicious.
I got inspired by rickmccarey and decided to make a little fire and enjoy a nice cigar tonight. :)
Buddy smokes Diesel's religiously; so I decided to buy a five pack and give em a shot. Called the "Shorty," it has a pleasing look and smell. Tightly packed. I looked forward to it.

I figure if I am going to kill an hour or so... might as well watch a little Longmire while I was at it :)!!
Attachment 139273
I kept waiting for the "Full Body" this smoke was supposed to have, but it didn't come. I finally gave up waiting and aided the taste with a little "liquid aid."
Attachment 139274
All said and done, the smoke is purely a mild to med-mild if you ask me. When I gave into that - it was fun if a little boring. Moreover, the burn was awful, and I was forced to touch it up a couple times (to be fair its really humid out tonight). But the draw and smoke was awesome.
All in all, I'll pull one out now and again 4 more times, but will not buy any more.
It was still a great hour and twenty though...
That's somewhat dissapointing , I've been looking to try a diesel. Maybe it was a dud? Could they get better with age in the humi you think? I guess you have 4 more to find out! :p
Nice fire and a smoke really plays a hand in a cigar I think. Setting to me is half the fun and can make a mediocre cigar more memorable to me IMO.
Rick
Yeah the fire really did make it fun lol. Being alone, it also make it a little introspective lol... spooky :)!
If your going to give the Diesel a try and like a full body, I would maybe try the "Unlimited??" I am sure the poor burn had more to do with it being humid out and my initial over-smoking as I looked for body lol.
Had an Ashton ESG tonite, very nice stick
Partagas Serie D no.4 .......yup!
Partagas Serie D No 4 are very nice cigars.

This bad-boy had been sitting in the humi for a while. I have been looking forward to smoking this since I got the 5-pack. Rest no more lol, today was its day :).

Gents, if you want yourself an earthy cigar - this is it. I have to admit I kept waiting for the taste to develop, but it never came. Great construction though, awesome burn.
Attachment 139824
Back in the day when I was living in Jamaica, an old timer told me that the ash of a cigar told you allot about the condition of the soil the leaf was grown in. I don't know if its true or not, but supposedly the whiter the ash, the more nutrients the soil the leaf had grown in had lol. I am guessing this cigars leaves were grown in ok soil... not the best, but ok :).
It wasn't all that I was hoping for. Pretty good - very earthy. I think these smokes will do well by more rest. I'll smoke the other 4 next year.
Anyway... look what I got in the mail today!! WOOT!

My first Bolivar , a coronas junior
Friday the 13th is better to start with good cigar (Alec Bradley Vice Press 6T4) and tasty rum.:)

Love me a nub maduro or any lagloria. Or a kuba kuba! Deployment taught me many things about cigars, especially keeping them from drying out in 140+ weather
Loving me a little 601 "La Bomba" action right now :).

You got to eat your meat before you can have this desert kids... whoa lol!! She's got kick!
