I just had an Old Port Colt today. Sinus is playing up a bit so no point wasting a quality cigar.

Had a Rockey Patel R4 yesterday morning. Good stick but a bit milder than I normally prefer.
That ain't nothing my friend!! Dang! Here have a look at these two American Vendors:

I wonder if it would be illegal for me to mail you one?? Clearly you mailing me a Cuban would be... so that's out. Besides I get up to Canada now and again so that cures me of that.
Well today I thought I would give the Man O' War Side Project... Skull Crusher another go. I had one a while ago, didn't dig it all that much. But it's been months now so the humi should have done its magic, if indeed, magic was to be done.
It's a cold day here in Capital City KS. Below freezing! Hard to believe I was golfing yesterday!! It was 60* yesterday for Pete's sake lol.
Anyway - off to the "Monkey" for a mocha and a "Skull Crusher!" What a great name lol.

The patio's view is... outstanding lol.
Well, it lit up well enough. Burned well... but short of the retro hale, kind of a boring smoke.

When it's cold out - the car is asylum :).
Oh well, even in the warmth of the car the stick never really provided any excitement. I mean sure it was ok, but nothing special and not complex at all. I kind of think this stick is overpriced. Many would disagree. Oh well. Still a great hour away from the hustle that is the pre-Christmas hustle :).
I love cigars :).

Burned an Arturo Fuente 858 this weekend. A decent mid range smoke.

And Check the Custom Razor Roll by Hannah !
Had an Ashton today.
Question...these have been in my humidor for several weeks. The wrapper leaf was a bit crumbly. My humidity is 66. Are you supposed to remove the cigars from their plastic sleeve to place them in the humidor?
It really doesn't matter as far as humidity. Cellophane breathes easily. I would check and make sure your hygrometer is calibrated. 66 percent is good but is the low end of what some consider acceptable.
If it is the Ashton I gave you, I know that was well humidified and cared for. If it was another cigar, it could be a result of prior damage. Too much humidity cracks wrappers and so does not enough. How was the rest of the cigar? Did the cigar feel hard or did it have a little give?
Smoked well, had some give. Terrific flavor. Not sure if yours or not, all mixed together.
I am calibrating my hygrometer now.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

The other factor I find is that the substantially lighter colored wrappers tend to break up as they are usually less oily. That's why I like habano wrappers and maduros. This could be my imagination but I think I correct.
Another thing to watch for is how quickly you smoke. I have to smoke some cigars more slowly because too quick causes more heat which also will split and break up a wrapper.
Well it did not start splitting til halfway thru. I am doing the salt and water cal on my digital hygrometer. Sealed in ziploc. It doesnt register more than 58. So unless I am doing it wrong, the humidity in the humidor was more than 66.
I am sure you are doing the salt test correct if you are following the instructions all over the web. It is pretty much a guaranteed 75 percent so if yours is reading 58 at 66 you are really 81 percent. If so, that is way too humid and will cause some damage
I would retest the hygrometer as I have never seen a digital that far off. If it is still there, you may need to leave the humidor open for a few hours and think about using 72 percent boveda packs for humidification as they are really stable.
Man - I got to tell you, you aren't the only one. I got rather excited seeing that rum too lol.
Fortunately on one of my wife's last trips to Cuba, she brought this home for me. When we moved to the states, the movers nor I noticed. I have been taking a shot now and again since being here, but I kind of forgot about it! Today, well today I think I'll take more than a shot, perhaps I'll kill the bottle :).

Glassware definitely isn't as nice though :).
I originally pulled out an Illusione ~68~. But now that I am prepping, I think I'll pull out a ~888~, but I am not going to take another photo - I am heading out to enjoy while the weather is still good :).
happy herfing!!
I was fortunate to receive a box of My Father La flor de los antilles bellicoscos for Christmas. Sweet taste and well rolled cigar. I was impressed and I have been smoking cigars for 40+ years.
For what it's worth. My Habanos reside at 67% tops. The few non-Cuban cigars I have are kept at 70%.
Havana Club 7Y is really fine rum.
I prepared 1919 Trinidad & Tobago Caribbean rum for the New Year.:)
Today was J Fuego Sangre De Toro Robusto, 4 7/8 x 49.
Very nice cigars for everyday smoking for a good price.

Had a couple last night. A NUB Double Maduro, and a Man O' War side project: 52-C. Both were great. Great bouquet and aroma.
I fired this one up last night watching the World Junior Hockey Championship
It has been aging in my humidor since September and it was worth the wait :)
What a great smoke!
Happy New Year All!

Happy 2014 gents.
Ended the year with a MonteCristo 5 and matching Havana dark rum.
Kicking off the new year with an old friend that's been rolling around the humidor for over 5 years.

Interesting cigars. Recommend to try.
"The smoke of this dark belicoso is rich and woody, carrying some meaty notes and touches of spice and earth. The draw is even and lush throughout".
