Off work today so I started with my own mixture in my new cob, coffee on the side. I have a bowl of Carter Hall lined up next.

Prep: 3 mile intervals run (33 minutes and change)
    Pipe: New Edwards
Tobacco: Cornell and Diehl Billy Budd
Refreshements: Double Fosters in the Blugill Memorial Big A$$ Beer Mug (from Dick's Last Resort in San Antonio, Texas)

Back when I was lean, mean and nothing but green, I could have done this distance at this pace with a hangover while wearing a gas mask with a half can of Copenhagen in my mouth. These days it passes for speedwork but oh well, no heart attack so I'll call it a victory. Mark, here's to ya, Brother!

After smoking Billy Budd all day yesterday I decided something lighter was in order today. So my morning started with a post-PT bowl of Granger in my new Edward's and an enormous cup of coffee. Only my second smoke with this pipe but true to the breed, it smokes like a champ.

I must say, I'm glad I decided to jar up a lot of my tobaccos and just take it slow with the MacB Golden Extra. It has improved my technique and I am starting to taste the tobacco much better than I was. I also let it dry a touch longer than usual yesterday (I usually just load it out of the pouch), which made for an easier time keeping it lit and a much cooler smoke. I'm still breaking that pipe in, but once it gets a bit of a cake, it's going to be a dream. Once I get through this pouch of Golden Extra, I am going to try a tin of Virginia No. 1. Then after that I'll try some other blends. In the mean time, I will throw in an occasional aro or blend to see if I can start to notice the different flavours of the different types of tobacco.

Good call on drying the tobacco - I tend to be a wet smoker and this has helped a lot. Enjoy your pipe!

After breaking in the new guy for about 7 consecutive smokes over the last two days (Billy Budd and Granger), I'm pleased to announce that it is indeed a fine smoker. I decided to give him the evening off and went with a tore up Arturo Fuente Flor Fina 8-5-8 stuffed into a 7713B Kaywoodie. I think I've got the cigar butt thing down to a science. 1. Hold cigar butt in your left hand. 2. With a pair of scissors cut it length wise. 3. Remove the binder and the wrapper. 4. Rub out the filler. 5. Lock and Load. I can usually get 2-4 pipes out of a butt. The taste is amazing. This 8-5-8 was just a wonderful cedary spicy treat. I've got a Romeo Y Julieta Reserva Real and a La Aroma De Cuba waiting in the wings. Don't often see a pipe with a band so here it is.
