I think they are underrated as being a good smoke. True they are cheap, but they need no breaking in really ,save for the fact that the first bowl should be smoked all the way down in entiriety in order to have good burns in the future. Beyond that it is just a good provicincial style smoke. Ya just gotta take it for what is is that's, all and get over the Popeye complex.

Indeed. I have a friend with a large collection of pipes and he loves his corn cobs out of all he can choose from. I have no issues with the price, in fact I love the thought of a cheap smoker that performs well. I started out with my dad's pipes and he never had a cob in there for some reason. I'll get one soon and smoke many bowls repenting my sins, no popeye complex here, I'll go all Douglas Macarthur on it!

This afternoon's smoke was a MM cob full of "Don's Blend" that is mixed by the local tobacco shop. It is sweet and a cool to smoke. Sat on the porch and read the newest Reader's Digest and had a pipeful. Nice.

People of the Pipe Brotherhood!!! Lend me your ears!!

I still consider myself quite new in the fantastic world of pipes. I've gotten quite a bit, well, tons of help already from NoseWarmer, but I now call upon you en masse. I've been playing around with different tobaccos and am looking for some suggestions. I've been trying English blends and wish to broaden my scope. I'm looking to try some Virginia blends.

So, I pose a question to you'all. What is your go to favorite Virginia blend? I realise that it is a matter of personal taste, but I'd like to get a few names to check out. If, you had to run away from a Zombie hoard, and could only grab one tin of Virginia blend tobacco, what would it be?

    Thank you in advance, donv

    PS Lux Bullseye Flake...:

A blend of ripe Virginia tobaccos spiced with pure Louisiana Perique. The center of Black Cavendish smooths out the taste. The outer blend is pressed into thin layers before being tightly spun around a stick of pressed Black Cavendish. The result is a massive ‘cigar’ which is cut into ‘medallions’ and packed. Lightly aromatic, medium strength. Most enjoyable on its own. Select 2 to 3 slices – rub gently by hand and fill the pipe lightly.

I'm really not a big smoker of Virginia but Orlik Golden Sliced if very nice and seems to have a cult-like following. Rattray's Old Gowrie is quite good as well. If you're a big fan of Perique and have a fairly high tolerance for nicotine, while not a Virginia blend per se, my beloved Old Joe Krantz contains both virginia and perique (lots of it.) Come to think of it, I believe I'll step out and set fire to some. Oh yeah, St. James Flake is pretty good too.

    Default Dirty Bear

Well it was well worth the three day wait from the government... My Dirty Bear showed up in the mail...

Very light weight for the size... And I already made one small modification to it... Replaced the stem with a freehand style...

    Awesome pipe for the money...
