Thanked: 983Yes you can use bleach, and it works well, you can also use an ultra-fine wet and dry sandpaper (2000 grit or higher) and a buffer with some even finer polish.

I use 50/50 bleach and water. Straight bleach is very harsh. And be ready to do some sanding and buffing after the bleach to smooth them out. I do the bleach, then sand from 600 right up to 12k micromesh. That gives me a great shine.

Be careful when sanding the bit area, as you can sometimes round it down too much, which makes it less comfortable. An emory board or fingernail polisher can help around there.

Thanked: 375Guys, I got the pipe stems in 50/50 bleach/water tonight, coated the metal with petroleum jelly. One of the pipes that I thought was good has a long hairline crack from the top of the bowl to the middle and it's all the way through so I'm guessing this one is headed for the trash. I did soak both pipes with salt and some whiskey for 24 hours. They smell of the spirits in which they were soaked now, much more pleasant, so that went well...
I did look at some YouTube video's and chap stick was suggested as a protectant for the ebonite stems. Also someone suggested Oxy -clean in place of bleach, ever heard of that? thanks again for all the help!CHRIS
