Yes I think the same as Tom, I am also glad to see that the shell casing you have as a tamper was properly expended (firing pin impression clearly seen) before it was put to use as a tamper. If the pin impression wasn't there I would just have had you check your finger quota, and tell you not to do it again...:)

I bought myself a nice little cob the other day, to try out the english/non aromatic tobaccos. So far so good.
I can understand that. I was once an angry computer user, and the blokes that sold me the computer didn't like me too much after I got angry with 'em. That was some years ago now, when I had aspirations of becoming a freelance writer. That computer, and the two years I had trouble with it, killed that dream. :)

First day off in a very long time. About to have a morning coffee with my brigham pipe and squadron leader. It's been sitting in my celar for about a year and can't wait to try it out.
I haven't been on here for a bit looks like we have more members from the Toronto area now. Lol can anyone say weekly pipe and razor fan club meetings? Lol
It's home sweet home after 6 days at work and time to start my friday eve.
J.Germains '1820' from pre-1964 Tanganyika meer. Estonian lager.
Have a happy weekend!

Sitting at the blacksmith shop enjoying my cob with an English Wales tobacco with a nice glass of micro brewed beer that was brewed here in the shop. I love my job :-D
Happy Friday everyone
I have mostly Brighams, yes. I feel the older ones are much better quality than the new one I bought. The fit and finish, the aluminum tenon and the overall feel of the pipe is much nicer on the estate pipes I have vs. the new one. I have three 2-dots (the one I restored, one I bought new and one that was NOS) and the older ones are, without a doubt, nicer pipes. Check out before-n-after-pipes on Ebay, who often gets nice Brighams for very reasonable prices. That's where I got my most of mine, including the 4-dots, which are very nice. The other Brigham I have is my grandfather's Sportsman 2-dot, which is out being restored and should be back next week. That makes 7 in total, at which point I think I'm going to stop with Brighams.
Started the morning off with some Carter Hall in a cob, coffee on the side. This is my morning no nonsense starter. Hope everyone has a great weekend.
I'm not sure. Being fairly new to the whole pipe tobacco thing, I asked my local tobacconist for a good starter non aromatic tobacco and this is what he directed me to. I bought two ounces of the stuff from one of the big jars in the shop.
Just got three unopened tins of 94 year old Prince Albert

One I've opened, the one in the middle, since the tax stamp was damaged on both sides. I'll rehydrate enough for a few bowls and compare it to modern Prince Albert, using two virgin clay pipes. The other two tins I'll squirrel away somewhere, maybe open in 2018 for the 100 year anniversary of WWI Armistice. Or sell, whichever ;)
From that woman in Wisconsin?
Great score with the Old School Prince Albert! My POTD is a Kaywoodie Flame Grain Meerschaum loaded with C&D Billy Budd. The unseasonably warm (85 degrees F) temperatures have caused a premptive fielding of my hot weather beer of choice (PBR). The house is ripe with the smell of Corned Beef and Cabbage. I raise my beer to Agnes (Bryant) Richter, my maternal great-grandmother. She was born in 1879 in County Cork, Ireland. Her marriage to a lowly German, Lutheran, farmer (Charlie Richter) caused a major falling out with her well to do family. Not only was he a farmer, and a non-Catholic, he had a reputation around town for occassionally wreckless debauchery. He enjoyed the company of women and (hold on to your hats) was even known to dance with them until closing time.

Yep, great score with the PA. The day started off with some Macbaren Vanilla Flake in an Eagle claw meershaum with black coffee on the side. Nice and warm breezy morning on the back day. I do love morning time when I am off, just doesnt get much better.
Started my day off with some Naviera coffee and a couple bowls of Granger in my Whitehall Grand National.
After getting a few too many tobaccos in my cellar, I decided to jar up most of them and just stick with a simpler tobacco for a while to help me get back into the pipe again.

ok, i have a question, might be just a matter of taste i understand, but what i would like to know, my local tobacco shop has regular petersons, and a peterson system pipe, and i know nothing about petersons to make a qualified decsion on which i should look at when i finally decide to purchase one, i would like to have a more traditional pipe sometime down the line, I hope that this makes sense as i am beginning to think it doesnt.
My system pipe is a very nice pipe, so far.
Difference between regular and system pipes is that there's is a separate chamber below the bowl. The smoke goes through that chamber before entering the stem, making it more dry than with regular bowl. If your tobacco is dry there's not much difference (imho).
Some like it some don't. It think system pipes are ok but i do not like my tobacco too moist anyway.
Also you have to clean the chamber but that is a piece of cake.
I have one system pipe and it is ok smoker but so are my regular Petes as well (specially the elder ones)
Peterson pipes
Today it's whistle pipes :). A few of my pipes with a newly finished whistle I made for a friend. It's in the key of Low G and plays quite nicely. Not my best whistle to date, but good all the same.
Pipes from left to right are Dawn Mist Claypipe, Peterson System and B.B&S (second).

Speaking of Petersons, I recently wiffed on this one

When I first put in my bid it was still a few days out and I said at that time it would probably go for something North of $100. I was right.
I know it's an old one so that has something to do with the price but by comparison, here's a similar brand spanking new pipe for less money
Peterson System Standard Smooth (312) Fishtail Pipes at Smoking Pipes .com
I'm leaning toward the new (vs. new to me) market. Don't get me wrong, I dig old pipes (the vast majority of my rotation is pre-1938) but for that kind of money, I think brand new is the way to go. I'm thinking the latter would be a fine Father's day present.
Today's POTD was a 7769 Kaywoodie loaded with Granger X 3
MacB Golden Extra in my grandfather's Brigham Sportsman.

I start my day with Les Wood
Today has been good. I received a nice little package in the mail from ChesterCopperpot (thanks Seth) that had a tin of Peterson Sweet Killarney, a generous sample of Distinguished Gentleman and a tub of Cella shave cream. Both tobaccos were run through a pipe today and both were a very pleasant change from my standard fare. I'm pleasantly impressed with the DG. It isn't one that is readily available here, and so it was a bit extra special for me. The SK is available here, but has to be ordered from specialist shops at inflated prices...Well more inflated than usual. I will be trying out the Cella later on, as I usually shave the night before leaving for farming duties, due to having to leave extra early to get there.
Seth, I will send you something in return for your generosity soon, something with an Australian flavour to it that's for sure. It will be a surprise, so don't bother asking. You'll just have to wait and see. :)

None whatsoever my friend. They let the odd ones come through like that. Lady luck was with me there. Thanks once again mate.

I'm alive and smoking guys, I promise.
