Wow does this pipe ever smoke nicely. I can't wait to see what it's like broken in!

I love my Pete System. It also hangs nicely in the mouth, which I think is an overlooked quality in pipes.

Joy of joys that is!) It was nice just to sit back in the shade of a Jacaranda tree after having a big drink of water from the water bag hanging from one of the low branches, and settling in to a coffee from the thermos and some of my favoured Cherry Cav in my Peterson system (It's become my go to work pipe). It was nice there, at the end of a long, hard day in the shade of that tree smoking, drinking coffee and watching the flocks of Budgerigars coming in to see what food they could find, out on the freshly mowed paddock.

Christ, I'd love to live somewhere where budgies flew wild. I love those little birds. You live in paradise, in my opinion, other than obscene tobacco prices

Actually, the way a pipe sits is of high importance in my choice of how often it gets smoked. I don't have a great many pipes to choose from but my Pete is my go to for just that reason. I love my other pipes, but the Pete is the favourite.

I don't live in paradise mate, I travel three hours to work in it. But working in paradise has it's draw backs. For one work is work, and time off to enjoy paradise is limited to all too short, smoko's and lunch breaks. And two, the real time to enjoy paradise is short lived as it is always the end of the day, and by that time you're usually so buggered, all that you can think of is the *45 minute trip back to the farmhouse (*depending on which property I'm working, it could be a five minute trip if I'm at the main property, but that means I also work longer, as I have more daylight.) to a hot shower, meal and bed before getting up and doing it all over again.
I gotta say though, seeing all those budgies with their array of bright colours feeding around on the lush green grass was truly magic. I don't think a photo would have done the scene much justice at all.

Another foggy morning here on the GulfCoast. Started the day with Carter Hall in an eagle claw meershaum, coffee on the side. Hopefully my new cob and tub ofGranger will arrive soon.

Speaking of Peterson System pipes. I've been stalking them for years and never pulled the trigger. It seems like even the really beat up ones on the bay seem to consistently fetch as much (if not more) than going out and buying a brand new one. This seems to hold true even of the real ugly ducklings that are barely restorable. The way it normally works for me is that I see one I think I might have a shot at, watch it for a few days and then see that someone else scored it for the "bargain price" of about $100. Now as has been documented on this very site, I"m a cheap bastar...uh I mean frugal gentlemen and the thought of dishing out a Ben Franklin for any pipe (but particularly one with a horrendous carbon build up and a severely oxidated stem) is a bit distasteful. If I ever got to the point I was willing to drop that much, it would be on a brand spankin new pipe for sure.

Kaywoodie produced a Pete System Knock-off in the 40's called a "Chesterfield" I've had the idea of checking down to one of those but even the Chesterfields end up going for somewhere between $45 and $70. And don't even get me started on estate Dunhills! In the spirit of "haters gonna hate" they are known as "Dunghills" in my house but that's another story. One day I suppose I'll have to forget my Scottish heritage and turn loose of some money and buy a new Petey (or maybe just quit my bitchin and come out with some higher max bids.) Rant Over

The man in the brown truck was good to me this evening and delivered a pound of C&D Billy Budd. In case y'all didn't know, this stuff is the dogs bollocks. I love coming home to a package, it's like Christmas when I was a kid. I secured my tobacco and have now geared up with an 8733 (pre-1938) Kaywoodie. Life is good.

If my first noobish smoke with the Pete is any indication of things to come, I would go for it. I've read that system pipes and p-lip are love or hate things. So far, I am definitely the former.

Today I try Erinmore Flake in my rescued Brigham.

I got my Pete system for $60 off Ebay a few months ago, from a seller named ShinyPipes. He has a really nice selection, and it came to me completely clean and restored. I'd keep an eye on him. I may have just gotten lucky that I saw it early, since a lot of his pipes are 'Buy It Now' instead of bid.

I keep forgetting to order some Billy Budd and OJK, I'll have to stick a post-it on my monitor or something.
