Just a bit of luxury blend in a viking bulldog. It's quickly becoming my go to dessert blend, with the viking becoming my housework pipe. It's short enough that it's easy to clench but thick enough to give a cool smoke.

    Default HELP NEEDED AGAIN PLEASE

    Evening Gentlemen,

Once again I am in need of your wise council.
I have managed to find a U.S store that will ship Mississippi River to the U.K and I had my first smoke a day or two ago. It was the best pipe smoke I have had to date smooth, cool and tasty. My other tobacco's have been a little bitter and not tasty. I smoked it in my cob, the bowl barely got warm and it stayed lite, it was a joy. Not sure what I did right

My smokes since have not been a joy, and I do not know why. The bowl has been hotter( but not to hot to hold), although I have sipped on the pipe, the taste is not there and in the mouth it feels hotter, no tongue bit, but a little bitter not the smooth tasty smoke as before, the pipe has stayed lite. Could it be that I have packed it to tight? I really want to get back to that first smoke. I have let the pipe rest I have had one bowl in the morning and one in the evening to allow the pipe to cool. I did buy a new cob after the first smoke to use only with the MISS/RIVER. I also clean the pipe after every smoke with a pipe cleaner.

Your thoughts and advise are as always welcome.

    Thanks

    Steve

Hi stevie. Might try packing your pipe a little lighter. And really gentle on tamping

You should smoke through a pipe once a day ideally and then have another pipe while the other drys out. If the pipe gets hot let it rest and cool. Also remember, the first couple bowls need to be smoked through to ensure even burning for future smokes. If you smoke through the same pipe more than once a day it can get moisture build up and go sour. also when your pipe is not in use you should obviously clean it out with a pipe cleaner and then keep a clean one inserted in the pipe while it dries. The cleaner will help soak up excess moisture to again avoid souring. Don't think you have done any permanent damage though so just be more diligent in the future and you should be fine. This is why starting out with a Cob is a wise thing. Make all your mistakes with a Cob so that your future Briars will stand tall. Cheers and Merry Christmas Stevie.

Oh the Holy Grail Pipe Smoke...

There is only a few of the "Best" smokes around... Seems like others have had that perfect smoke and then never to be found again, or at least not for awhile...

You may not realize that you are puffing different, also some say that if a person takes a "break", the perfect smoke will come back...

One puff every 10 seconds... That is a PUFF, not a suck, long draw or anything else... (IMOH)

Stevie, you will find that perfect smoke again... Don't think to much about it and enjoy it...
Life is really simple, but we insist on making it complicated...
