Benelli all the way, but I guess I'm pretty biased.

I've shot a streetsweeper that was full auto, fun, but not practical. I have really had some interest in the siaga shotguns...but my 870's could be great workhorses for the zombies...

I have a "tactical" 870 - a box stock gun with the deer/rifle-sights barrel. However - after having a couple of false alarms in the past, if the problem is in the house I want a flashlight in one hand and a pistol in the other, and not the shotgun. Outside, the shotgun rocks, but it just doesn't turn corners like a pistol.

One of the elastic stock sleeves for extra ammo is a nice addition, though. I had an extended mag on the previous 870 (lost in a house fire - really, that isn't a "lost in a lake" joke), but it really wasn't as worthwhile IMO as the ammo sleeve.

Don't let that deter you, I've always been much more of a pistol guy than a shotgun guy, so I'm biased a lot.

I wish I could do a "data dump" on the forum with what I have learned in regards to firearms and their use/effects. I didn't get the nickname shooter for nothing. I have my fair share of guns and the one that is within reach of me at night is a shotgun. It's my "house only" gun and one that I won't post pics of for obvious reasons I'm sure you can figure out. I shoot a lot, have trained a lot, including being injected with adrenaline by EMT's & running live fire house clearing/shooting drills. That is very eye opening, especially when it comes to pistols. It is also very humbling. Time and time again the shotgun wins in close quarters with low light because of the hit ratio. We can also get into overpenetration, this opens up a whole new can of worms...like a stray (missed shot) bullet entering an neighbor's house.

The most important thing about shooting in self defense is hitting what you are shooting at...PERIOD.

Amazing guns eTom, those are exactly what i would be imagining as far as tacticals go.

One thing i do like about shotguns (espcially the 870) is the deterrant factor: picture entering someones house at night with the intention of doing something bad to the inhabitants of said house... a light clicking noise from a beretta engaging the first round might not be heard from a room or 2 away, but the definitive 'chu-chunk' of an 870 getting pumped will send you running for the hills no matter how many rooms away the shotgun is.

my personal favorite as far as remmis are concerned is the http://www.wilsoncombat.com/s_professional.asp
