Thanked: 102Tactical Shotguns
Personally I do not care for the Tactical Shotgun. We old timers use to call them riot guns.
When I first started in Police work, I heard all the stories about how you could rack the slide on a pump shotgun and the suspect would automatically become jelly, freeze, become a Christian, etc. I found this to me a myth. Usually they scratched off, got another gear and you had to run them down. Chasing someone while carrying a shotgun is not an easy task. Especially in narrow hallways, mobile homes, close railroad tracks and wooded areas.
Make no mistake - they will stop someone with bad intentions. They may have someplace in home defense or a survival situation. I would still prefer a heavy cal. pistol or a short barrel rifle.
I hasten to say that many others do not share my opinion on shotguns.
If you like them go for it.

Thanked: 1936The most important part is knowing your weapon IMO. I've got a 1911 w/ night sights and a .458 Socom AR-15...shorty Remington 1100 is what is beside my bed. My purpose is simply home defense though. In a police setting, I'd want the .45 unless I was clearing a house...then I'd want the .458. Then again, that's waht the .458 socom was developed for. "One round puts them down".

Problem with a rifle round, over penetration. I have a home, kids, neighbors. I dont the round to go through the bad guy, 4 walls and into the neighbors or god forbid collateral kid damage because one was somewhere they should not have been. Reduced recoil 2 3/4 00 buck will do the job but I prefer a big, slow, hollow 45. Bullet stays in the body that I placed it in. Like my Sig. Most of my scatter guns are for shooting clays and birds. Hard to work around a doors with 28 inch tubes.
Kicked around the idea of getting a Saiga 12. They would probably kick me off the clays range if I used it for a round of sporting clays. However, short tube, collapsible stock and mag fed, it has potential. Down side, anything auto loading can jam and usually at the worst time.
Hard to beat a good old wheel gun. If you get a dud round you dont have to clear it, just pull the trigger agian. a 357 with 38+p's is a darn good weapon.

Thanked: 1936I've been thinking about oneof the siaga's as well since they are based off the most reliable automatic rifle action around/built. I have to say that the auto's are pretty much 99.9% any more as long as you are using a quality gun and round...but the wheelgun does have that mental (at least in my peabrain) 100% no fail policy. That's starting to change for me though, my friend who has a Judge is having problems & it's a grimlin. Sometimes when you ared doubleactioning it, it will lock up and take like 30 lbs pull to get the round off. Needless to say it's not a keeper like it is and on the way back to taurus...
