Thread: Tactical Shotgun?

Problem with a shotgun, or any long gun, is that the barrel proceeds you around corners. A pistol can be kept close in and round the corners with you. I like my shotguns, I shoot sporting clays but I will keep to my 45 for home work. If 14 rounds is not enough and push comes to shove I keep a 30 round mag for the AK with alternating hollow point and steel core guaranteed to ruin your day even with body armor although body armor does little when you get shot in the face after the dog eats your arm. Problem with that is over penetration, you shoot clean through the bad guy and the 5 walls behind him/her. First rule of winning a gun fight, dont show up with a knife.

This is true, but only if you plan to sweep the house. Which I don't. I am not intending to surprise anyone by showing up from around a corner or even by racking a shell into the chamber. As we don't have folks in other rooms of our place usually, I have the luxury of sitting tight, snicking off the safety, and defending that way. Even an SBS would be hard to clear with.

I have both the 1897 and Model 12 Winchester "trench guns." They both function and shoot well. But, they're both very collectible. So, I got a Mossberg 500 on sale at Academy for about $200 and added an extended magazine tube and "ghost ring" sights. I'm thinking of adding a "red dot" laser sight for faster target acquisition. It's loaded with an alternating mix of 00 buckshot and slugs.
I strop my razor with my eyes closed.

Tactical Shotguns
I have a Mossberg 590A1, that heavy barrel on the military model is great. I opened up the aperture in the ghost ring for better use at night. I added the Spec Ops stock and the Cheek piece add on so I am in line with the sights and it gives me a place to store some extra batteries for the light I have mounted on it. I also have the side saddle ammo carrier. I have the ability to add a sling when I use it for three gun matches but dont normally keep it on. The thing I have to tell students most often with a shotgun is to remember to aim, if you lose track of the front sight you can miss with a shotgun; even at close range.

Thanked: 101
The barrel was cut years before I ever got it. It had a dent in it and the guy who sold it to me said his FIL hunted with it like that for years. The barrel Ser.# doesn't match the gun. I only removed about 6-7 inches from the barrel as it was anyway. It hadn't been shot in 30 years before I got it. That changed....When I tore it down I had to literally scrape all the carbon and crud out of the reciever. A bunch of quail feathers were all lumped and matted in there too. I fit the stock to it. Got it from Brownells. IT was a pain!!! Still needs some tweaking. Put a new mag spring, recoil spacer ring and keeper screw in it. That is all I have done to it. Shot a bunch of 1oz. slugs and buck (plus a bunch of birdshot too) through it over the weekend. All handloads. Never missed a beat. Just gotta remember to adjust the rings going from load to load.

Here's my little on-going project - 870 Express Magnum, 18" barrell, Scattergun Technologies 2-round extension, Speedfeed short forend, Vang Comp oversized safety, Mesa Tactical side saddle and a simple mount for an old, trusty Surefire 9Z with upgraded LED bulb installed. I can hit the tail cap of the light with my left thumb for instant-on or turn it with my thumb for constant-on. I recently installed a 12" LOP stock and now it's a bit too short. Nothing a Limb Saver won't fix! Should add another 1" and then it will be perfect!
But this one is next on the list... Can't wait for this to be released! 14 shot 12 gauge!

I do find it interesting that
there was a thread on calguns.net
about straight razors.
I my self am a certified NRA pistol instructor,
and of course at times I shave with a
straight razor.
