Thanked: 2Do a search for Seiko 5's they're automatic they've been around for a long time and come in many different styles. I have 3 and wear them daily you can find them on ebay from $50-150 new. They're one of the best automatics for the price point. I believe the original msrp was around $250.
Do a search I'm sure you wont be disappointed with the different styles available.

+1 on the advice to get a Seiko. I inherited an insanely expensive Rolex when my father passed last fall - it's incredibly beautiful, but doesn't keep time as good as my Seiko. I've had 3 or 4 Seikos over the years and they're great!

Thanked: 102Taser
Try a Taser watch. Although they sell Military style watches they have one model called the "Classic" which could work as an all around watch.
I have had one for over twenty years and it has survived very rough treatment and still keeps excellent time.

Thanked: 1My first thought was Skagen also. Very thin low profile watch. Here's a couple:

I had a Swiss Army Officer's watch that I liked a lot. I gave it away to a relative when I bought my Rolex in 1999.

check out timezone.com There is a "sales corner" under the tab "Community" Many of the watches will be way out of your price range, but you may find an interesting vintage watch that fits the bill. Anyway its fun to oogle.

Thanked: 70Not auto, but Bulova's new Precisionist line is a killer.
They are a larger watch (42mm+) but are curved, so they tuck under a shirt. The watch is battery powered, but the second hand sweeps, like an automatic.
Excellent styling and I'd own one, but they are too big for my wrist.
Kohl's carries them and doesn't charge MSRP. Try one on.

So far I really like my Lotus. It was affordable, and tells me time and date. Mine has purple stitching and numbers though.
They also have them with additional options for chronometry. In that case they use the 'nuclear danger' cutout you can see in the watch face for additional information and a different background color. That is nice, but I don't use that, ever, so I didn't want to pay for the extras.Last edited by Bruno; 04-04-2011 at 06:13 AM.

Thanked: 101You guys got me wanting a Seiko SKX173 very badly. A buddy of mine just put a down payment on an Omega the other day. It is a nice HEAVY watch! It was the Seamaster 300M CO-Axial Chronometer. 800 bucks (Pawnshop)
