+1 on the Skagen. Nice looking and great watch.

I wear a titanium Skagen as my "dress watch". They're in your price range, and most of them are mildly-understated Scandinavian-looking designs, many with a matte finish.

But as far as I know, they're all quartz - not mechanical movements.

I'd assume they are pretty strict about the rest of the uniform? (Read that as a joke, but you get what I mean, right?)

If I had to guess, I'd say no dive for the size/weight and possibly because of the lume as well; no idea on multi dial, other than they tend to be harder to read and any unnecessary delay is bad; no rubber is a mystery to me, but no rubber does not mean only leather. Most field watches are on the smaller side, three hand/single dial, 1-12 and 13-24, that's it. It sounds to me like the requirements on watches try to lead you there.

I would go with a NATO or Zulu band and try to stay away from leather. Both NATO and Zulu have the benefit that if one springbar breaks you don't loose the watch which makes them perfect for any situation where the watch might be treated a little roughly. I believe both originated on military issued watches which makes me believe they'd be perfectly acceptable.

The more I read this thread the more it made me feel like my Eco drive, g-shock, and fossils weren't cutting it, so I now have an old vostok komandirskie on the way to me. I also ordered an orient Mako and a NATO strap for it. Orient has a 30% off plus a free random watch offer. Or you can go to retailmenot.com and find a coupon for 50% off plus free shipping.
Curse you all...in the best possible way.
