All of my whips are poly. I prefer to not worry about upkeep on my whips. Of all I have now I think most are of my own hands. Last I checked a good quality whip could range from $200-2000 USD. My favorites were stockwhips: made with a handle of varied length from 18-24" and total length between 8' and 14'.
I started getting into rat whips (pocket whips) towards the end. They are shorter, no handle and usually have a ring or bulb at the end. They also were more difficult to control, but worked well in smaller quarters.

I used to work on a 5000 acre property which was a farm, but also a "resort", though that was their term. I think they used it loosely... Anyway, people would stay and go horseback riding, bush walking, see farm demonstrations, and generally have a "bush" experience. Think the movie City Slickers, but Australian style.
So I worked on this property supervising the staff, and dividing my time between doing farm work and basically cowboying for tourists. One of the things I had to do was whip cracking demonstrations, so I got pretty handy with them, using them every day for moving cattle, or for showing off to foreign women.
I have a few. The nicest is a full plate kangaroo one, but for work we really only used cheaper red hide stock whips, because they would always end up wet, or wrapped around things. If I dig some out I'll take a picture to show what they look like.Last edited by Legion; 07-20-2011 at 09:00 AM.

I am a real estate agent while showing a house I was discussing with the viewers if they could re-model and create an ensuite bathroom in the corner a bedroom. The bedroom belonged the daughter of the homeowner, she was in her early 30's and had moved back in with her dad after a break up.
I moved a curtain to show the space between the window and the adjacent wall. and hanging behind the curtain was a rather impressive whip we all went quiet. I guess she does wild west reenactments in her spare timeRegards

I stumbled across this site and found it very helpful.

Price can vary like others have said. I really wanted a leather one so I was prepared to pay more. But a non leather or even a leather with less plating(braided strands) might be an option.Shaving_story on Instagram

I ate too much ice cream last night in Whip City. But I don't think that helps you much. Although I did think of this thread when I passed the sign. Sadly, because of the automobile replacing the buggy nobody makes whips here any more.

I just thought I'd share that the little miss just looked at my computer while I was in the shower. She now thinks I have some kind of fetish with whips because it was highlighted from the Finer things menu...
No that pistol isn't the only thing under my kilt, but I can tell you both of them work just fine
