Before the "Quartz Crisis" in the 70s there were a zillion small producers with now unknown names in Switzerland. Most were wiped out at that time. Even big names like Omega and even Rolex produced Quartz models.

It truly is a huge, garish piece of timekeeping.
It actually looks better in the picture than in person, har.

There was a time when Invicta sold a range of Swiss Made watches which were high quality pieces for very reasonable prices. I had a diver from that range and they would put a Rolex sub mariner to shame.

Of course these days all their watches are an assemblage of parts from the far east assembled in Central America.

It is real nice to have one watch that goes in all situations from diving to dark suit.

If Rolex makes somebody go ape that is their problem.

A friend of mine put it this way, having a Rolex is no big deal, not having one sucks!

Yup, they wear with a suit or with shorts, this is the Rolex Daytona, a "driving" watch I guess, still lock solid waterproof to 300ft (been in swimming pools, the ocean, snorkelling, never a worry), built like a tank, and wears with shorts or a suit.

Inhouse Rolex built movement 4130, 72 hour power reserve, probably the best Chronograph movement available, most chrono's have at the least over 400 parts, the Rolex has just 202 parts (which is an incredible bit of engineering), vertical column clutch versus lateral allowing virtual instantaneous measurement of the seconds.

Like the Omega Speedmaster (another great watch), I am absolutely intrigued and fascinated by the engineering of fine timepieces, have been since I was a kid, this was a, "Grail" piece for me and I wear if for myself. 99.9% of the people out there pay zero attention to watches and wouldn't have a clue what it is, so the only people that generally would notice are other watch geeks.

I had nothing to remember my father by other than a red velvet dinner jacket from the 50's ( doesn't even fit), and one day, this watch will go to my son as I know perfectly well, this watch will easily last longer than my lifetime, and most likely will be passed on to my grandson one day.

But personally, I bought it for me to wear and enjoy, and no-one has ever noticed it.

Yes, the only people that notice the Sea-Dweller are my dive crew.
And most of them wear either a Sea-Dweller, Submariner, Suunto or Seiko dive watch themself, in addition to a dive computer or two.

Seiko was making their 6s37 chrono mvmt in 1998 and it was one of the best out there at the time. In those days Rolex was using a Zenith El Primero in their Daytona.

That is a fantastic movement; and if I recall correctly, went on to be a basis or the Grand Seiko movement, which are absolutely spectacular watches, and completely underrated - a GS is a true WIS watch.

Tag I think used that movement and "rebranded" it as their own....
