I've had a Waterman and a Mont Blanc, but I'm with zib these days - I found a red Lamy Safari after dismissing one of my classes that I used until I left in some hotel room during a conference. As soon as I landed a full-time gig, I immediately bought a new Lamy Safari that I still use all the time. Never dries up, and always smooth flow.

    Default Pelikan M800 vs M1000

I am considering purchasing a Pelikan fountain pen to add to my small collection of pens. As of now, I am considering either the M800 or the M1000. I've managed to save enough such that I can accommodate the (significant) price difference between the two, so what I have to decide on is whether I want another pen that is similar in size to the two Mont Blanc 146s that I have now (which, by the way, feel fine in my hand), or something bigger. I am concerned that the M1000 is going to be too large (my hand measures 7 1/4" from wrist crease to longest finger) . Any thoughts?

The Edison Perl I have ia a large pen but not "overly" large. Probably the same sze as a 146. If you go to Edison Pen site and email Brian he'll be more than happy to send you the measurements. He custom makes his pens...

I have a m1000 and its heft will temper your handwriting in a good way and you will find that it looks better than with a pen that has much less weight to it. The size is something that you hands and shirt pocket will need to adjust to. But you both will.

I have 3 and like 2 of them a lot. I have the Lamy 2000 stainless steel. And an Edison Beaumont stealth. I also have a Franklin-Christoph 29. It should be coming back in the mail tomorrow. I have sent it back 2 times now because it won't write correctly. Hopefully third times the charm!
