If I'm shavn with a straight, shootn a longbow , and perkn my coffee , and chasing fur ,you can bet I ain't shootn a center fire Scoped rifle. And an in-line black powder gun is just plain cheatn.. I pour my black powder down the barrel and ram a 45 cal patched round ball , put some 4x powder in the pan and let the flint and steel do the rest, old school... But hey Deerhunter ...you already knew that . And I put 3x in the pan on the damp days ( it doesn't absorb as much moisture as 4x ) for better ignition.

Been studying a few books to figure out what my first flinter will be. I'm torn between going authentic and saying the heck with it and make what I want I have every plan to retire in Alaska and with that I need a thumper so to that end I want a .62 flinter halfstock based off a Hawken design. The Authentic part of me want to do a 36 small game rifle... and every time I get the books out my wife hides my wallet and any spare change laying about

Thanked: 1160Did some brief reenacting way back in the day. French/Indian war was my thing but also hung with some mountain men here in Denver. All that was so long ago. I wanted a Charleville French musket bad back in those days. Oh well...times change. sure is nice to hear someone bring the subject up though. I'll be lurking with joy on this thread. Can't wait to read about all the wonderful toys and experiences. Go Flinters !

Thanked: 101My dad just got a Lyman Flintlock. A bit modern, but still cool. I went out (not to be bested) and bought a CVA caplock. They both shoot really well. Both looked like they were unfired. Just real dusty. I bought mine for $80 OTD! It is the one with the patch box and double triggers. My Dad bought his for $300. Came with possibles bag, 290 RBs, 5 flints, FFFFg 1lb can, lubed patches, and all the other stuff that comes with it. Both our guns are .50 cal. as well. I made some dippers for his gun and they work for mine as well. Would like to get a flintlock lock for mine and convert that beast. I have a Lyman .490 single cavity mold for it. They shoot good. We need to see some pics of that rifle young man!
