Okay I am going to expand on this a bit. My father smoked non filter cigs from 15 years old to 40 years old. He switched to pipes and cigars at 40, gave up cigars and only smoked a pipe until he passed away at 84. He smoked pipes all the time.

In the mid 1980s, in my 30s, I began smoking a pipe. I had been smoking Camels with no filter since I was 14 or 15. Wanting to emulate my father's switching I ended up smoking both cigs and the pipes/cigars. I stopped the cigars in the '90s when the prices quadrupled and only smoked the Camel non filters (2 packs per day) and an occasional pipe.

Finally quit the cigs in Dec 2000 and only smoked a pipe ..... chain smoked I might add. In 2011 I began to obsess about smoking Camel non filters again. I finally yielded and bought a pack @ $8.00 for the 20 cigs.

I had dinner and smacked the closed deck of Camels on the palm of my hand to pack them. Took one out and began smoking my first Camel in 11 years. I coughed a little, and by the time I had burned half of it got a little dizzy. I smoked 2 thirds of it and stepped it out.

I didn't smoke another for three days. When I did it tasted horrible. I couldn't imagine how I had smoked these things for 36 years. I smoked about 1/4 of the foul thing and threw it away. I tried one more time a day or so later, took two drags and threw it away. I gave the pack to a guy who smokes and said his grandfather used to smoke Camels.

Pipe tobacco is of a much higher quality than cigarette tobacco and most people, I for one, don't inhale it. Shortly after I began smoking pipes exclusively, I found I was able to smell the aroma, if you want to call it that, of cigarettes. If you smoke them you won't be able to smell them. Where most bystanders think the aroma of a pipe is pleasing , the aroma of cigarettes is disgustingly foul.

Since, like a couple of SRP members have mentioned, I am addicted to nicotine, I may be like the pot calling the kettle black, but anyone who can quit smoking cigarettes is way better off.

My Mom smoked Camel non filters and I used to steal them when I first got hooked. At $0.25 per pack it wasn't long before I was buying my own. When they went to buck I swore I would quit but it is like getting used to $4.00 per gallon gasoline. Pretty soon it becomes the norm even if we don't like it.

What really gripes me is that they sell the filter tips for a third the cost. They know that if anyone is smoking Camel non filters they are hooked and there is no need to have two for one promotions or reduced prices. You can still get filter tips around here for relatively cheap, by today's standards. Not the non filter Camels. Moot point with me since I can't stand the darn things now. Took long enough to figure it out though.

When it comes to cigarettes i prefer British American Tobacco than Phillip Morris!

BAT make 555, B&H, Rothmans and i think Dunhills as well i think. American ciggs aren't low quality, just bad in taste, that is all!

I tell this that once you got the taste Rothmans Internationals, you will chuck Marlbros, Camels out of the window. Most of these brands are almost more than 100 years old. A little bit of heritage along with the smoke!

Have to say, that the British people really mastered the art of tobacco and alcohol making!

Scotch being my other weak spot.

No... I am not from England! Its just that these ciggs are so well spread out on the other side of the Atlantic and so hard to find over here i what bothers me.

I know Camels been around 100 years as well. I just mostly preference. I prefer 555 over all other ciggs. Rothmans being my second fav.

Cigarettes are full of reconstituted stems, fillers, and chemicals.

Years ago they had fewer additives, more real tobacco and LESS nicotine.

I don't smoke cigarettes but RYO is probably the best bet for quality. For commercial smokes, search the web, smoke shops, gas stations etc.
