One brand that I forgot to mention, Lucky Strike Studs... I will admit that 10-15 years ago the American cig's were better than now...
Life is really simple, but we insist on making it complicated...

My dad farmed tobacco so I have have smoked tobacco directly from the curing barn. You might have smoked some of my dad's tobacco.

If you're a non filter smoker, and like them strong, Gauloises was the one I would treat myself to once in a while. When I lived in New Orleans in the '60s Picayune was another. Thing about Gauloises is they are sure enough coffin nails. As soon as you take the first drag you know it is more nicotine than you'll get out of 2 camels.

I lived in New Orleans as well. I remember Picayunes. Funny. I always thought Gauloises were a bit mild.

I only smoked the non filter variety of the Gauloises and to me they were stronger than Camels. Remember Home Run ? Another blast from the past that is probably long gone.

When I was in my teens I'd sometimes by a sack of Country Gentleman or a packet of Target and roll my own. Target was close to the taste and nic hit of Camels IMO. This was back when the rolling paper companies sold papers cheap. Pretty soon the pot smokers drove the price of those up to where it was too expensive and the tailor mades were
    cost effective.

When it comes right down to it, if you're going to shave with a straight razor, you should really smoke non-filtered cigarettes.
