I wear combat boots to work, black leather Italian zippered ankle boots when I'm in a city, my Anderson Bean cowboy boots when I'm not, but my favorite pair by far is my Wolverine 1000 mile boots. They go with everything, and can go everywhere.

Oh, I quite understand. It's just that we have 'culture' over here, at least in SOUTH Australia; can't really vouch for the other bits.
(wow, I managed to insult most of two whole continents then )

Jamie, I've been re-thinking the Italian boots. I've been asking a lady I work with (she works at a different site) about the boots and initially she said she didn't like the colour; and then said they may be hard to get on and off with the buckle affair. I've also considered if the buckle affair would be 'supportive' enough; I like shoes and boots that fit well with no movement while not being too tight. The buckle might be hard to adjust perfectly; not like laces. Even though the Italian boots come in a darker brown (of which the female colleague approved) I'm now re-thinking the whole thing.

I WAS going to get BOTH pairs of boots, at a total of about 5 hundred AU. I've been thinking though about what I said about the Alfred Sargent boots being ridiculously expensive; aqnd so decided to have another look to find out exactly how much they were. Now I see the really nice pair I liked aged ago are a little cheaper than buying two pairs of boots; and may in fact go with both jeans and trousers (slacks).

Of course I'd get the leather sole.

    Here's the link:

    Alfred Sargent - Cambridge

So, Jamie (and everyone) advice on this? One pair of REALLY nice boots rather than two.

PS, Jamie, how do you rate the quality of yours?

    Workmanship (precision)?
Ruggedness (wrinkling, wear (sole and rest), etc)?
    Fit?

I must say Carl I love the style and design of the boot you have in the post, If I were looking at buying a pair those would be my choice, they will look equally as smart with a casual pair of Levi's and a nice linen suit jacket, and perfectly suited with a smart three piece tweed suit, in my opinion they are a excellent choice of a classic looking boot, match them up with one of these suits. Ta. That suit on the right of the home page of that site is actually nice; though I'd never be bold enough to wear it (unless I visited the place of my birth; Wibech, England). The suit in the middle I WOULD wear, that's nice...

Carl, you may have culture over there, but confidence and decision making seem in short supply. You had everyone tell you the Italian boots were good and now one woman has told you no, and we're back at the beginning again!

But those Sargents are good. And glad you're coming around to our way of thinking. One pair of good boots is worth more than two pairs of less than good boots. And having said that, 320 Pounds is still not a lot. 1500, maybe, but not 320.
I love the smell of shaving cream in the morning!

Carl, from what I know about you , those have your name written all over them. And as you say, they can be dressed up to look very smart, or put with casual wear for a picnic in the park. That versatility makes for the perfect men's footwear in my books!

Yes, not only am I plausibly implausible, but also decidedly indecisive...
I did appreciate and consider (at length) the advice received, yet still am worried about that strap. What if they loosen? What if one needs to make another hole? What if one decides that hole renders the boots too tight or loose? A nightmare I say; a nightmare waiting to happen. With my OCD there would be havoc in the heavens and destruction on the ground, ANYTHING could happen. Loose footwear cannot be tolerated, just as neither can finger prints or 'smearing' on the glass of one's watch...

I appreciate your comment, I gather you are a man of style? (I'm not sure why I'm speaking like Lord Byron all of a sudden )

I thought "Are those Sargent boots really worth five times as much as the others?" Then decided I'd get the cheapy ones AND the Sergants...

Here is my shopping list for Tax Time thus far. Tax Time is the only time I buy stuff, really...

    Crash pad
    Alfred Sargent Boots
    Selected Homme Caleb Boots
    Trs, brown
    Caribbean Bay Rum, Original
    Speick AS
    White Shirt, French Cuff
    Hang Board
    Belt

I'm probably slightly obsessive about stuff....
