Looking good. Did you taper the tang a bit, or otherwise make the tang a bit thinner than the spine?
It doesn't have to be much, but without it you'll forever have geometery issues during honing.
It's hard to make out on the picture so I quickly sketched what I meant on your pictureTil shade is gone, til water is gone, Into the shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath.

Looking good so far. I'm yet to get a couple of knives under my belt so I can give this razor business a try.
Bruno, when is your book due out?
I'm going to need a bigger bathroom

I'll never forge a razor myself but since it is a creative act I must follow it to see process and fulfillment of idea. Waiting patiently for next installment.

looks pretty good so far. definitely want to see how it comes out for you. If I ever get SWMBO to allow me the tools and work space i would like giving this a go someday.

Managed to get some workshop time today and thought you might like to see what I got up to....
Here the outlines are scribed onto the steel. I then cut them out with an angle grinder and tidy up on the belt grinder
This is the first one rough ground and ready for heat treatment
I couldn't resist having a play with a 'western' style razor too. Here it is profiled and the tang tapered. I've marked where I want the shoulders and where I want to top of the grind to finish
Nearly there
The pivot hole feels about right. Hard to say without scales.
I ended up taking a bit more off the tang and them threw on some nasty plastic scales just to get a proper sense of shape
I'll heat treat and hone these two now and take it from there.
Thanks for looking. Any comments, feel free to shareLast edited by mikew; 03-27-2014 at 03:59 PM.
