I'm thinking horn with a bone wedge. In large part because that's what I have to hand. I suppose I could melt down a bullet and go for a lead wedge... Although I'll take another look at the bits of bone I have. Pretty sure they will be too small to make bone scales for a blade this size.
Now, as for what colour horn to use, I have a dilemma. I was going to go with black to kind of match my W&B FBU, what with them being of a similar size and all. But I also have some brown horn here somewhere too. I think. And if memory serves, it is pretty nice stuff. It's been a while since I've made scales, so I just hope I actually have what I think I have!
It was in original condition, faded red, well-worn, but nice.
This was and still is my favorite combination; beautiful, original, and worn.

Yes. Yes it will.
Have I mentioned my utter lack of experience with razor grinding? Well, this may be the wonkiest bevel I have ever put on a blade, but dammit most of it now has a really nice edge.
I started with a DMT as I had left the edge way too thick, especially at the heel. Then went right through my two Nortons (325 - 1st time using that on a razor! - 1000, 4000, 8000), finally finished on one of Rezdog's awesome Haida Gwai hones.
The reason only most of it has a good edge is simply impatience. The toe needs a bit of work to get it right, and I fear the heel may never have a proper bevel simply because it will take a LOT of work to remove the steel necessary. But the way the heel curls up, I'd be happy not to worry about the last 1/4" or so. Would be good to get the rest of the edge properly into play one day though. The bevel itself is both wavy and huge on the front, straighter but even bigger on the back.
But I couldn't care less at this point. The thing actually works!
EDIT: forgot to say hats off to you guys who are able to grind razors evenly, accurately, and consistently.Last edited by Cangooner; 12-16-2017 at 04:17 AM.

Thanked: 1936That first edge is a booger, I always use diamond to get the bevel close first. Good show!

You have gone farther than I ever plan on going with razors. So my hats off to you for your efforts. I didn't think you will be able to pull this off in the beginning but you sure did. Great job!
It's just Sharpening, right?
