    for the scales an idea would be to take bits of linen from old strops and make "mycarta" with them to keep with the idea of turning the old into the new :}

    the razor is looking great!!!!

    I did have some really nice brown horn, but of course that cracked when I drilled it. So it ended up with black horn and a bone wedge.

    Test shave results? The less said, the better, I'm afraid! The bit of the blade I actually got a good edge on shaves beautifully. The toe and heel, however, not so much. So once the holiday craziness dies down, I'll get it back on the stones and do a proper job on it. The bottom line though is that when properly honed, this thing takes an edge even better than I had hoped. So for anyone else with a pile of blades and a forge - don't hesitate to give this a try. It just might work.

    To everyone who gave suggestions and encouragement along the way: THANK YOU!!

    It was in original condition, faded red, well-worn, but nice.
    This was and still is my favorite combination; beautiful, original, and worn.

    You are influencing me to scale the one that I just finished up. Not sure if I have any scale material though, have to dig around. I think I have some bone somewhere...

    Awesome idea! wish i had the tools/ability to make such a razor. Don't know why it hasn't been done sooner. (maybe i'll start saving old Shefields just in case)
