Thanked: 13Not sure about the Damascus, but a laminated Japanese steel with wood scales is around 350. Thats the price of a top of the line TI almost! So good I ordered one! I love the idea of a short blade!

Thanked: 137I was looking at your cracked shank and feeling sorry for you, when found myself remembering another custom Damascus that was posted on here recently. What about trying to make a two-piece tail for the broken razor like Robert has done with the razor in the photo? Admittedly, his was deliberately planned and made like that, so you may not be able to reshape yours well enough to attach a new shank, but it could very well be worth a try. After all, it's such a pretty blade it'd be a shame to waste it.

Awesome razor. I've been wanting a small razor for a while as I like having a goatee, but it very much gets in the way when I'm trying to do XTG passes on the jawline. A small razor would be just the thing.

Thanked: 324With a very carefully fitted male/female connection, a new tang could be created out of brass or any other strong and solid material. (stainless steel and brass are both good options).

Thank you all for this kind input. Actually the crack in the shank is always welded and regrinded. In the next days I will harden the razor and see if this will work. The only problem that is not be fixable with this method, at the point of welding the damascus pattern will not be visible. But I think this doesn’t matters. It´s the chance for me, to keep a Damascus razor for myself
Robert, I´m a really big fan of your work. It is wonderfull what you do with the steel and the exquisite handle materials. But the razor shown above is not a option for me. Only one reason – I don’t like “bi-color” stuff.

Over the christmas hollidays I used the time to finally finish my own mini razor. Like i wrote some weeks ago the shank is welded. It is visible but nothing serious for me.
It´s for me more a sign like this: "...the red painted indentation on the blade, which is characteristic for this axe form, has a religious significance in Japan. The irregular recess represents the fallibility of all man-made creation and is an apology for intervention into perfect and divine nature."
The scales are from rams horn.
