Thanked: 1Scott's trying to make a razor???
Dang nice razor for a first! I think i shall give this a shot too. I work with metal all day long, so why not? What types of metal are appropriate for this work? Also does it need to be cut on a water jet, or would laser cutting work just as well? Anyone know?

keep in mind that the thickness of the spine should be between 1/3 and 1/4 of the width of the blade. That is an often made mistake.

Thanked: 1Found some O1 and a good amount A2 steel on the shelf. Is the A2 good for anything? Not sure if its annealed or not, as a lot of it is not labeled or just has a few markings on the steel itself. Also the O1 might have to be machined down to correct size. Can that be done? I'm thinking its not yet in hardened state.

I don't know if any of us has ever used A2 or not.
O1 can be milled down or just filed down. Try filing it. If it bites it isn't hardened.Til shade is gone, til water is gone, Into the shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath.

I'm pretty sure that Jerry Stark has done some A2 razors. Not a common choice for a razor.
