Geez, 'Runner. By the look of it, you'd think people liked you or something. Can't imagine why.
'Wish lots of young guys had the benefit of hanging out w/ you.

Retirement means doing what you want, where you want , for as long as you want. Just keep moving ! Congrats on a courageous decision !

One of the disadvantages of working retail grocery is that it's only the very 'few' that have a steady schedule! When I worked produce they were fairly consistant however once I was forced to be a checker anything went! I would be scheduled to work until 11PM and then be scheduled to be back at 9AM! Another employee who had me by 2 years seniority complained to the assistant manager (who wrote the checker schedules) that it was unfair that with over 30 years of service that we had those kinds of shits.
He was told:
QUOTE "It's not the 'Quality of Hours', it's the 'Quantity' of Hours" that the union contract allows for.
This was from someone 28 years old!
I'm glad I'm out, however it's not getting any better for those still in. The 'Be Glad You Have A Job' attitude just keeps getting worse!

Thanked: 481Yea, too many workers buy into that dogma too. And we're all viewed as expendable/replaceable rather than a valued asset no matter how many years of service or degree of training we have.
I've reminded more than one employer that they are not the only car repair facility in the area, and dragged up for greener pastures more than I care to admit. I've watched employees get setup to fail when a manager forces a job on them beyond their skill/knowledge level, customers lied to and sold things that technicians did not recommend, bullied or needlessly scared into buying what they did recommend, and all sorts of other shenanigans that just should not be happening. And all because the higher ups only see green, and couldn't care less for the people they're bilking to get it.
I'm ready for a change myself, but retirement is not an option, and corporate America has a wicked case of ethical cancer. Well, only thing to do is keep my nose to the grindstone, and an ear to the ground for a better opportunity. I have an interview for an apprenticeship at a ship yard next month, we'll see how that plays out.
Good luck in retirement, hopefully you'll find something to keep you busy. Maybe turn a hobby into a side business so things are a little less tight. My grandfather made a little side money off his wood work when he retired. Not a lot, but a little here and there to ease things up.

Well I finally got the pics of my kids and me at the 'retirement supper' to be upright! Stupid computer kept posting it upside down no matter what I tried!
Kate, Connor, an Old Fart and Rachel
All of my children bear the name of a family member who I loved or respected very much. Katie's middle name is the same as my beloved Granny Davis's, Connor's middle name is the same as my father's first name, his father's middle name and his grandfather's first name and Rachel bears my beloved Granny Davis's first name.
I bear my mother's father's first name for my first name and my middle name is the same as my father's father's first name.Last edited by cudarunner; 01-10-2016 at 02:21 PM.

When it's no fun anymore, it's time to leave.
I used to think it would take dynamite to get me to leave the Navy. Then the Navy changed and made the decision pull the hook after 14 years much easier. Turned out to be one of the best things that ever happened to me. Got out, went to college, got a good job with a good employer) with excellent profit sharing on intellectual property), and (semi) retired before I was Fifty. I still do some consulting.
I would say this to you: Any one with the survivor skills to last 36+ years with the same employer will soon find a way to turn any situation to his benefit. Be patient-this will work to your favor.!! Enjoy the exquisite taste sharpening sharpening taste exquisite smooth. Please taste the taste enough to ride cutlery.
