What does your avatar convey?

Years ago, I started a similar thread asking our members to explain the message behind their avatar. Since then, we have had many new members with interesting avatars. So I thought why not one more round?

My avatar is the image of the ancient Assyrian god Ashur. The god Ashur is also the symbol of the Assyrian nation. I am a full-blooded Assyrian, so what better avatar for me? Assyrian-American, I should say, and proud of it, and proud of having worn the American Army uniform in Vietnam.

The Assyrian empire flourished in Mesopotamia, in what is the present day Iraq. It was the land between the Tigress and the Euphrates rivers. Assyria's capital was the city of Nineveh, where the present day Mosul is located, in northern Iraq. At present, Iraqi forces combined with the Kurdish Peshmerga and the American Special Forces are preparing to take the city back from ISIS in the coming months.

The Assyrian empire, which at its height conquered many surrounding lands, fell to the combined forces of the Babylonians (who flourished at one time or another in the southern part of the present-day Iraq) and the Medes (the early Persians), in 612 B.C. In the following centuries, many Assyrians remained in their ancestral homeland, retaining their nationality, language and culture, with some scattering throughout the Middle East. Later, Assyrians accepted Christianity. So all present-day Assyrians are Christians.

We Assyrians speak the Aramaic language, the modern version of it, I should note. I speak it. Aramaic is also the language Christ spoke. Herbrew, Persian and Arabic are based Aramaic, the language of my ancestors.

So that's all about my avatar.

Gentlemen, what about your avatar? What does it say?

Mine is not anything near as interesting or as enlightening as yours, very cool. Mine is just a picture of me doing what I love seeing the country on the seat of a Harley, that one was a trip over the Dragon to ride on the Blue Ridge parkway, with some of my brothers in Rolling Thunder. Tc

Mine is a picture of my eldest daughter wearing a pair of my German style safety goggles. I used it because every time I see it, it puts a smile on my face. Nothing less, nothing more.

Mine is pretty much self explanatory.
It's a picture of one of my 700 size Whiplash gasoline powered remote control helicopters.
The heli has a 27c.c. two stroke pull start motor. It's a pretty stout machine at 13+ pounds with a 6ft.+ rotor span. Currently I own two of these.This has been another one of my passions for years. I have spent a lot of time traveling across the eastern part of the country since I retired, flying in shows and at meets.
I thought it would be a cool avatar and give everyone a "hint" into another part of my life.

Great post Obie. I knew a bit about the history of the Assyrian empire, but not that Assyrians became Christians or spoke Aramaic. Thank you for the lesson.

My avatar is just an image of a print I won at a candle light shoot. A candle light shoot is done with black powder rifles after dark. You load and shoot in the dark, shooting out the flames of candles without hitting the candle. Hitting the candle or not putting out the flame is immediate disqualification. The last man standing wins.

I saw my avatar posted by another member, then I believe he changed his to another, and many moons later I picked it.

To me it sums up myself and many here, and what I feel about this fine hobby, somewhat eccentric gentlemen, who belong to this great forum, who otherwise might not ever meet, but if we did, betcha we'd get along fantastically, have many passionate interesting discussions, enjoy each other's fellowship, and while we may not be wearing funny hats, we'd still be members of an exclusive club, which many think we belong to any way, with our "affectations" of shaving with a straight razor and the swag that comes with it.

So my avatar is me waving my, "I shave with a straight razor", freak flag, and I'm proud of it!

That is a very cute young girl. The LORD blessed me with two daughters and no sons, proving He has a sense of humor. Those girls changed me in ways I never expected, I hope yours does the same for you.

Yes, it is humorous. Name a Disney Princess movie, I can sing every word, oh and name every princess.

My two little girls are everything to me. They take a bad day and somehow make it glow.

Many years I watched Ariel the Little Mermaid every morning with my daughter, and could probably still sing the song to, "Franklin", the turtle, the opening theme song sung by Canada's own Bruce Cockburn.

I grew up watching my father and grandfather shaving in the early 1950's, and tend to associate that era with my developing interest in shaving. I remember the advertisements in Life, Look, and other magazines for Gillette, Old Spice, Mennen's, and other products often contained beautiful young women. My avatar is from a movie poster from that era, and unfortunately, I've forgotten the name of the movie star, but it reminds me of those early shaving ads.
