My avatar is a portrait/sketch that was done by artist Jim Hatzell while we were working as extras for "Dances With Wolves."

Among his many interests are collecting 'character' hats and clothing. He had this cream colored roll brim cowboy hat that he thought would look good on me, threw a bandanna round my neck and whipped up this sketch in about 10 minutes.

One of his life goals is to paint a pic of Custer's Last Stand with all of his friends into it. I hope he realizes it someday.

Needless to say, it is a favorite reminder of the experiences with moviemaking.

Nikki was my last dog. He passed right before my straight razor addiction took hold. I miss him.

I used Thoreau as part of a username for a long time for many purposes. By the time I came to SRP, I decided to use something else so I chose Utopian since he was part of that movement. Still, I figured I might as well go ahead and use Thoreau as my avatar. No, it is not Lincoln; and no, it is not me! When I went to my first MN meet-up, a few people actually expressed surprise that I did not look like my avatar!

    Richard,
I love your avatar. I think that's Rita Hayworth.

    Well, he is "Swedish", so...

But I'll admit that I may have been inspired by a certain Belgian user who goes by the same theme.

Back in the day, we had moderators, super moderators, and administrators. I was a moderator at the time. Something or other was changed, and we were trying to figure out what had happened. Lynn said it wasn't him because he couldn't even feel his super powers that day. So I posted a pic of super grover crashing down, with the caption' Is it a bird, is it an aeroplane, no it is supergrover!'

I didn't have an avatar at the time and when I became super moderator sometime later, I took supergrover for my avatar. I've thought about changing it, but after having used it for such a long time, I guess I am used to it too much.
