Thanked: 0Yes, I quite like the second one too!
I think now that I've spent the last 2 hours in front of the computer, I'm starting to see that razors are alot like art

The brand does matter, as far as the second two they are highly coveted, Henckels makes fine cutlery and their friodur line is some of the best full hollow stainless razors out there. I have sold all of the razors that I didnt absolutely cherish, but the friodurs where some of the razors I kept, I love them. That said, I dont think you will find a bad razor on that site, and all of the razors mentioned are nice.
However, size matters and even though 7/8 is only 1/8 less of an inch than 8/8....it is a BIG difference when you look at them...I like everything big though...so I may not be the best person to ask since I am clearly biased.
BTW, razors are just like art, and I would take everything in tonight and then sleep on it...if you still feel a particular way about one in the morning, I would go for it.

Thanked: 0SL: You and everyone else on here has been so helpful tonight! I really appreicate all the wicked input. I guess it's like the saying goes - go big, or go home!
I'm going to sleep on it - and take a good look at a few more, now that my mind has expanded beyond "scales" that are plastic - and blades that are bigger than 7/8's.
lol
I'll be on tomorrow.. but please... in my absence, feel free to post more photos/websites of great straight razor ideas!
Thanks guys!

Hah! I have one that is made between 1810 and 1836. It was rusted over when I bought it for 99 ct, and now it is back to its former glory.
My mother has books that are much older, and generally she starts by ripping it apart in a controller fashion. She is a master book restorer.
Anyway, if your boyfriend doesn't actually shave with it, you don't really have to worry about the steel. The razor you linked to originally looks great and would be a good choice imo.
Another option is to ask in the buy / sell / trade forum here, but you have to take shipping into acount so european sellers will probably not be able to deliver on time.
If he would use them to shave and you would have some more time I wouldtell you to ask Robert Williams (papabull over here) who is a master craftsman who forges custom razors. He delivers superb work at reasonable prices.Til shade is gone, til water is gone, Into the shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath.

Thanked: 5this thread has received more attention in less than 12 hours than most will ever get!
honestly, I still like the first razor you chose. It's a good balance or quality, collectability (important in this case) and price. and it will perform well too if he ever decides to give it a go.

Sorry I was not around for input last night, (Incubus Concert at Molson Ampitheatre) and got home around 1:30.
It is nice to see a girl into this hobby even if he doesn't shave with them. My ex freaked out on my when i first bought my stuff as she thought i was trying to kill myself.
The razors are a piece of art especially with ones that your boyfriend would be looking at. If he isn't shaving with them, it is purely aesthetic I would assume. You seem to have some good taste in the blades and the guys here are great to chat with, everyone has some input whether it be about a specific blade, or a place to check it out. As others have talked about, there is the BUY/SELL/TRADE section of the forums that would be a good place a post either a WTB (Want to Buy) or looking around for nice blades that many people have in the FS (For Sale). Many will be shipped honed, though if that is something that your boyfriend does enjoy you could ask for it dull lol.
Hope all the information sunk in after your sleep, and you should maybe post up some of your boyfriends' razors for everyone to see.
