One wonders where you would read something like that. True, society is becoming very risk averse, but many things like driving a car and even crossing the road can result in injury if you are careless.
When shaving with a cutthroat razor it requires care and attention like any sharp tool.
Extremely dangerous, no way.
If shaving is extremely dangerous, what phrase would you use for a firefight with the enemy in Afganistan?'Living the dream, one nightmare at a time'

I agree in some aspects the US has become a country of thr risk adverse leading to the rise of those terrible disposable razors and cartridge razors. But I think more than that the US has become a nation of suckers who are willing to buy aboslutely anything at any price. Never one has Proctor and Gamble been required to give any proof that two blades are better than one or way the simple addition of blades to a cartride makes for a better shave. Never underestimate the gullability of the American consumer, he/she will buy anything at any price.

I have never heard of anyone getting seriously hurt, or killed, as a direct result of shaving with a straight razor. And I've been alive a long time.
I actually nick myself a lot more with my 1950s Gillette 'saftey' razors than with my Dovo or Genco. Maybe I'm a bit more deliberate with them...I dunno.
Statistically, I am 99% certain that you run a much, much greater risk of being seriously hurt or killed driving your car, than shaving with a straight razor. So my advice is to walk more, and enjoy a great, luxurious straight razor shave daily. Sometimes, it's one of the best parts of the whole day. That's YOUR time. You deserve it.

But yes, most of them wouldn't know Christmas from Bourke Street!
