    Default I Love This Place!!

    Howdy Folks,

Well, my phone has been ringing off the wall, I'm getting all kinds of PM's and emails because a lot of you have seen some posts on other forums that seem like they have honing information that came from the members here at SRP.

As you know SRP was the very first straight razor forum on the web and we have grown to become the Mecca for straight razor information. Our global population has more knowledge and experience when it comes to straight razors than I can even imagine. Just look at our Wiki! Our membership provides the absolute best information I have ever seen on straight razors, razor restoration, straight razor shaving, accessories, hones, honing and everything else you can think of. You folks have a lot to be proud of and both experienced people and new people contribute knowledge here every day.

Our world is not about any one individual. It is about the preservation of an art that makes all our lives a lot more pleasurable because of the contributions of each of you. Each and every one of us brings something to the table and I for one have never seen the kind of sharing of knowledge that goes on here. I could name about 50 of you right now and thank every one of you for your kindness, your help and your willingness to see that every new person who comes in here is successful in learning to shave and maintain their razors. There is an amazing amount of time, effort and experience that comes out in your generosity.

Any one of you can copy all the information here, put it into your own words (maybe) and look like you know as much about straight razors as someone who has been practicing the art for 50 years. Yes, we have seen this and yes this is the internet and new people never know the difference. If that floats your boat, so be it. As many people have told me over the years, imitation is the greatest flattery.

So what I am saying is thank you one an all for your participation here. I believe your knowledge will always be the foundation of knowledge for all the other forums and we certainly wish them all well. The more straight razor shavers in the world the better.

My special thanks to you guys who provide the great restoration information and beautiful work. And to all who give us guidance regarding hones and honing. To all who work with and use strops and brushes and continually experiment to make better stuff and make stuff work better. To those who know and provide soaps, aftershaves, colognes and all that enhances our senses. And to those of you who experiment with metals and shapes and come up with amazing straight razor creations. And to the moderators and mentors who help make this the kind of place where people want to be.

    You folks rock!!!!

    Lynn

That is a GREAT post Lynn!! The problem with it is,,well it's simple really, we owe you a BIG thanks. Because of you willingly giving tons of your time and services, (among other things) we are all here enjoying this art to the fullest. It may be a huge statement to say you alone brought this art back, but you have had a HUGE part in it and in passing so much knowledge freely to so many. It was f,or a very long time, said in the sport of basket ball "I wanna be like Mike" in reference to Michael Jordan(the biggest and best available in his art) well. in the straight shaving world , EVERYBODY wants to be like LYNN!

    p.s.
I do hope you keep taking all the imitators as flattery....

Lynn, within the last several months I've been striving to absorb and master my new straight razor skills. In response to one of my questions, someone asked me if I'd seen your DVD. I bought it, and I've got some time off coming soon. One thing I am looking forward to is spending some quality time with the DVD. Thanks for all you've done for the rebirth of straight shaving.

When guys get tired of the fakers at other places SRP will be even more appreciated when it is finally found. I just hope that the info that is being published elsewhere is credible and hopefully from established SRP members so that those newcomers who show a genuine interest in the art will not be lead into disillusionment. SRP rocks!

To echo the sentiment that has already been expressed, this is the place that people come to learn from the best. There is good information on other forums regarding straight razors, but most of it is from members that are active on SRP. SRP has been like grad school of wetshaving. I got an undergrad somewhere else, but I've come here to learn the all of the intricacies that I need to master this skill. A big thanks to you Lynn

lynn, it is you who deserves the praise for your knowledge and sharing that with the rest of us. i know i would have given up if i had not seen your videos on youtube and that brought me here. i have never and i mean never seen so many members willing to help with any and all questions. i even saw where a group of the members got together to send a startup set to a guy who was out of country because it was going to be so expensive for him to get things through customs, the guys did it for free, where do you find that kind of help with anything these days.(just sorry i did not see the post early enough so i could help also). i also try and help as much as i can to newer members, i am still learning myself. i feel proud to be a member here and cannot say enough great things about all the fellow members. i enjoy coming on the site and enjoy comments from everyone. keep up the great work.

    I could not agree more!

I would just like to add that, besides the wonderful information, experimentation, restoration and so on that happens here, SRP is for many of us a second home. As weird as it sounds (having never met anyone in the flesh) I have friends here - not acquaintances, but genuine friends. People I could count on in a pinch if needs be. And I hope some people here feel the same about myself.

    Cheers!

    James.

Well I have met a bunch of you guys in the flesh and can say first hand that you are all that anyone could hope for, you have all been kind, and generous, and the type of people I am proud to be a part of. In the end the posers will be found out and the quality folks will still be here.
