    Default It would be nice!

Well I just joined this site in hopes for acquiring knowledge about the straight razor. And coming across the topic of a give away sounds Extremely appealing. So cutting to the chase, I've never owned a straight razor in my life. And If I was to be given one, I would be extremely grateful. If given away to someone else, enjoy!
Look forward to discussing everything there is to know about the straight razor.Thanks.

I've got one you can have if you like. Nothing too pretty, but will get you started. PM me if you're interested, but don't forget, you'll need a strop too.

Is this thing gonna happen? I just started trying to shave with some things off e-bay and spent about half an hour reading this whole topic. It'd be nice If I someone would give me a nice razor. Or even if someone could sharpen the one I have now (cheap ass DOVO) or the one I'm getting in the mail (Thiers Issard for $2 off ebay, so it must be ancient). I don't really care about brand names as long as I would have something that would be
    1) straight
    2) sharp enough for me to shave without getting the feeling that I'm using a file to remove the hair. (like it feels at the moment)

Default Here is what you'll be getting Garry.

    Garry,

Your razor is going in the mail within the hour.

I rehoned your razor without the tape on the spine to compensate for the spine thickness and found the shave to be very good. If my prep was not off then I think it was a bit smoother when honed with the tape but that would mean you'd have to strop it with the tape which I thought would make it impractical.

I also cleaned up the grind marks, most not all because I did not want to reduce the spine even further.

There is no warranty on the gold plating. I am experimenting with flash plating and could not resist trying it on your razor since it originally had it. The plating is very thin and can be removed with any metal polish. If you like it then enjoy it while it lasts.

In case you forgot what it looked like before here is the e-bay link:

    Hi There,

Not sure what's going on with this thread, or if there are any more razors floating around out there....

I'm real new and I'm looking for any razor that's decent enough for me to begin shaving/learning with. Nothing fancy, just something to get me going so I don't have to fish around on ebay and deal with scam razors.

I'm more than willing to pay for my razor and if anyone out there has a decent razor for a newbie...don't hesitate to contact me, I can paypal you a few bucks.

Seems like a bunch of honest gents here, so I'm willing to go on the honor system

    Let me know!

    Thanks fellas

Vladsch , I'm totally speachless thats amazing . I never imagined it could be brought back to such a fine finish -- I don't know where to start thanking you for that , that was way way above my expectations of "looking at it for you " ;-) ... thankyou so much .

I'd like to get in on it as well. For now I only have one of those crappy Pakistani e-bay specials. Took me quite a bit of work on a Jap hone to get it to shave decently. However, I'd like to have a decent blade as well.

P.S. If you have a nice full hollow-ground 5/8 or a 6/8 blade with a handle that's beyond restoration, that would be ideal, b/c then I could mount it on a Dovo stainless steel satin finish handle that I REALLY like

edit: P.S. This is a really nice thing you guys are doing. Once I learn enough I'd like to do the same.
