I like theories,it shows the way a particular person thinks, there is a famous theory by Anne Elk, that states (and I quote) a dinosaur is thin at one end, much much thicker in the middle and thin again at the other end

hehe, I remember hearing that one before, love it too. It says so much about the grounds a theory may stand on without doing it directly.
But, there's also the "93% of all people are impressed by statistics"

I like statistics. For every 'statistic' out there, 10 others are there to refute it. Statistics are taken largely by sampling a small section and then "assuming" that it's an accurate reflection of the entire demographic and given an accuracy rating of "plus or minus" so many percentage points.

Maybe they're out there but I've yet to read a statistic that was done on the entire population in question (that I'm aware of).

Here's a couple of statistical tactics that I especially "love".

-Deaths caused by smoking: When a smoker dies of a heart attack or a stroke at the age of 98, it's still marked as a smoking-related death.
-Speed was a factor in X% of car accidents. You can't get into an accident if both cars are standing still. This one allows the governments to scam the public into approving more speed traps and getting raped by legalized highway robbery and the insurance industry which finances a good chunk of speed limit enforcement.

Reminds me of the archie comic where the one character's uncle was a smoker and drinker and 'lived to the ripe old age of 88', and then in the next frame it mentiones the uncles twin brother who lived a clean life and lived to 110 .

Yes, but I've heard that 97% of statistics all are made up "on the spot."

    Go figure.

It may be true but you didn't have to come out and say it like that But the speeding statistic is especially true. They say that speed is a factor for every accident involving one or more moving vehicles. The only accidents where speed is not a factor are where you open the door and dent/scratch the other guy's door.
