Thanked: 45Maybe slightly off topic but has anyone actually used that preshave oil? I don't have time in the mornings for a shower and hot towel so I normally just splash water then put on the lather....just curious if this helps at all?
Also, interesting to note is that they put the shave time on the video which I assume is an attempt to overcome the most common objection I have found to traditional shaving....smart.

I have tried AOS's feels like 50w oil on face not much smell, Truefitt and Hill pre shave oil lemon scented and much lighter and American Crew somewhere in the middle but strong clove smell, honestly I can't see where any of them help at all on the first pass as I too just splash water on lather and then shave, where they do seem to help a little is on 2nd and or 3rd pass apply a little on your face and this way as applying it you are feeling the areas that need more attention and apply well in those areas, of course ymmv.

I actually find it kind of tacky, with a consistency not unlike olive oil. I've been using it and was planning to do my first 20 or so shaves with it, then try a few without and see if I can tell the difference. Right now, I doubt I could tell the difference so I'm trying not to change too many variables.

The video is ridiculous for us, but I was in the mall this past weekend and their were very cool Art of Shaving advertisements in every mall bathroom. They got my attention.
With that said, the Art of Shaving products are very good. I think that the aftershave balm is actually one of the best I have used. The cream is excellent as well and pretty reasonably priced compared with their other products. I have not used the soap. but I have read that it is as good as the best out there.
So, for now, I will refrain from making fun of "The Art of Shaving. "

My first straight came from AOS my wife bought it for me as a gift. I had already found this site and had been lurking for a few months. I just wish I had watched the videos and read more of the tutorials before butchering my face. So AOS is really what enabled me to take the SR plunge.

I'd be more inclined to try the products if they'd stop using pretty-boys who appear to be getting half a chubby just looking at themselves in the mirror. I'm sure they don't intend it, but the message I get from their video is "Buy these products and you can be as narcissistic as I am!!!"
Maybe they hire someone like "Oiradobiat". Marketing could give him lines like:
"We are the Art of Shaving. Cut the crap. Let's frickin' shave already."
