Thanked: 23TAOS got me into Straight shaving, my wife and I were in the mall when one just opened here so we decided to stop in. We ended up getting the travel kit with brush, pre shave, cream and after shave for like $50 they were out the trial in our favorite scent. I got home and tried it out with my cartridge and enjoyed the whole experience the sandlewood smell and the feeling after I shaved. Then I thought hey, if my shave is this enjoyable with a cartridge I bet it would be even better with a DE. Did my research and found this site and decided why not go all the way. I still use TAOS products but with my DOVO instead of the cartridge I used to use.

I'm really not sure what anyone would think is wrong with the video (ok, yes, it's a commercial, so they overuse the products, but aside from that). I actually think it was fantastic.
The vast majority of shavers use cartridge razors, so that is who they are marketing to. But there's more to it than making money; getting cartridge shavers to start using "real" products like creams and brushes is the first step to reviving wetshaving among the general population. Once more people start using brushes and creams, who knows what they will "convert" to next.
I also think there is a lot of shaving knowledge in the video. I don't disagree with any of the advice they gave, assuming you are set on using a cartridge (I'm ambivalent about the preshave oil, I've never tried it).
All in all, I'd give a huge kudos to AOS for making the video and for giving a boost to mainstream wetshaving.
And a note to everyone: Regardless of what you think of the video, we do not allow the bashing of vendors on SRP. Please do discuss, but DO NOT BASH.Last edited by holli4pirating; 01-12-2011 at 07:02 PM.

Ha!!!
I guess that did sound weird!! In my defense, I was at the mall from 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM. Not fun for me at all. Was with the fiance returning stuff, suit shopping, wedding dress shopping, etc. So I think I am allowed two or three trips to the John in a seven hour period no?

If you go to the AOS store you should be able to get a sample pack that has the preshave oil, the regular cream, and the aftershave balm. The oil and balm I found to be nasty goo that I would not put into my shave routine. OTOH I loved the shave cream.
When I talked to the guy at the store he said "Use a dollop of cream the size of a marble. That much cream should easily last you three passes." I found him to be pretty knowlegable with cartridges but misinformed about straights.
I still use their soaps and creams but none of their other products.

Bummer, the holidays are over
but for $125, (for the cheap one) I'd have how many more razors and creams?
My brush is still better 'cause actually use the muscles i was born with.
I could find a way to hang it over my mug, and it would make the lather for me. Then when I put it to mah face, and push the button, I could also shave my bathroom wall. That's how much lather I would make.
Does this thing have a speed knob? how aggressive do I want my brush? I could put in setting 5 for the first pass, then move in a little tighter, then even tighter, finally to the 1 setting for that bbs on my last pass.
sorry, this is a product that is just asking to be made fun of. I'll stop!!
No i won't...
but what I really need feature wise for a brush isn't just a motor. I mean it NEEDS the motor too, 'cause it's so cool, but what I really need is a ...
...actually I think, no, I KNOW my brush is perfect the way it is.
Yes, the free samples of soaps, and gallons of pre-shave oil I can't afford are pretty good.
Thanks thehekler for the laugh! seriously! that's insane

interesting tid-bit
Marketing for a lot of companies can make a product seem less enticing. I don't think bashing a product, or one's advertising scheme is saying anything bad about the company. The first example I remember of that is Ford. They made the "Nova" and wondered why it didn't sell in Central and South America. Finally someone told them no one want's a car that won't go.
Understandably, I do need to lighten up on the cheesy acting, and deranged product(s).
It is a good start with what AOS has done for shaving in popular culture.
What I would love more is direct competition with AOS.
Yesterday, in the morning my dad mentioned he bought AOS products from the department stores when he was younger - the same product, the same name, different ownership. Just realized his experience is now more interesting learning that P&G is the current AOS owner.
