My 3 year old son has picked up on this...Only occasionally is a reminder needed for a "Please" or a "Thank You". The "Sirs" and "Mams" will come here shortly. I see no reason for my child to be a terror in public. I work hard to make it that way. Two things happen if he acts up badly in public 1) We leave. 2) He is reprimanded. That was the way my parents raised me and I turned out OK.

Since I started this thread I felt inclined to read every one of the posts. I now remember why I enjoy SRP so much. Good people with good brains and a backbone. Just when I start getting pissed off at humanity I remember there are people out there like you guys and I sigh in relief.. But i still think your F#%en nuts..

Remember, the Constitution was authored by people who had just revolted against an abusive government. The second amendment was there to assure that it would be possible if the same thing happened again (the voting fails or is dispensed with).

There is actually an example of that happening. In the early 1930s Germany was a democracy. One day, the legislative house was bombed by terrorists(??). By presidential decree, most civil liberities were currtailed to give the government the power to protect the people. The Nazis gradually took over shortly after that.

Theoretically, we could fight against that because of the 2nd amendment. In reality, it's not that good a solution today, because even the biggest hand guns and rifles don't work too well against an army with tanks, a bomb or a rocket.

No, I think in this case your post was reasonable. The second amendment and weapons are in there as part of the present discussion. Just notice how it continues with a discussion of carrying weapons.

But if we wanted to get into the applicabilty or value of the 2nd amendment today any further, we really need a separate thread.

Those conversations turn out as well as conversations about religion or abortion lol

Well, being Australian I'm pretty ignorant re the whole weapon carrying thing, and it's not my place to comment one way or the other, although the idea feels alien (the only people I tend to see with weapons are the police).

However, we too have our fair share of rude, inconsiderate, self-absorbed, dim-witted, moronic plebeians (often all of these simultaneously) over here. Unless it's something directed at my wife or family, I tend to take the attitude "I refuse to have a battle of wits with an unarmed man". If I do need to stoop (plummet) to their level, my favourite comeback goes something along the lines of "now, do you spell your name with one 'wanker' or two?"

I used to work in the middle of Sydney till I escaped any way I once had this woman run into the back of me,not watching what she was doing. She had the hide to stop me in the street and tell me to watch where I was going.
Lets just say that the conversation was brief but when we parted company she saw the error of her ways and her day was definitely spoiled
I have always had good manners and have made sure my kids are the same always treat people with the respect they deserve,my only failing is that I get rather stroppy when people don't reciprocate
    Kind regards Peter

    Peter,

I have seen this attitude her in the states too. I think some women think to get by in a man's world they have to become ruder than any man. Too much..
