I've finished a lot of my blades on a 12k Nani and love the edge. The polish it gives is like a mirror. It is def a very consistent finisher, But, I hear nothing but good things about the Shaptons too. I've never used one but from what I've read they are great stones as well. Maybe someone else who has used both might chime in.

Or just get a Charnley!!! You have experience with one already. .

You know where I can get a Charnley? That's the thing, Naniwa is reasonably priced, a known grit, and readily available. The naturals are the exact opposite. I'm still working out the Coti I have and so far I haven't been overly impressed with it. Although I blame my lack of experience. I was also considering a "new" Thuringian, the Muller, sold by Phil, but have heard the quality is not the same as a vintage Escher/Thuri and the vintage ones are pricey! I'm leaning toward the Nani with the hopes ill be able to pick up a sticker intact 8x3 Thuri at a yard sale/flea market for $5. That how I got my Lily Whit and ID stones.

I know what your saying about the naturals. Kind of a craps shoot if you can't actually test the stone first hand. Check out aj_1001 on the bay. Are they real, not sure. They sure look like the real deal.

Like you said, the Nani is a known grit, reasonably priced. Also lots of reviews, and a ton of people like them. You can't really beat that.

I wonder how his slate stones would compare to those vintage beautiful ones?
I picked up a few goodies today and have spent the evening lapping.
