Thanked: 2591David, thanks for providing us with a venue to have the meet up, you are a great host.
I had great time talking to the guys. Ron has an awesome set up to look at edges, and some really cool natural rocks. I really liked his newspaper strop for oiling bevels. Randy was a pleasure to talk to about honing and hones. I learned a few things from him.
Howard had two awesome tanto with him, but I got carried away and forgot to ask to look at them more closely, but I was impressed with the workmanship.
Mike(entropy1049), thanks for the vintage Williams Mug Soap, that is so easy to lather, wish they had not changed the formula.
Here are the pics I took, the time flew by so fast with all the conversations and cool things going on, I wish I had taken more pics and a video.
Randy talking to Howard and Joamo
Randy setting up his lathe grinder
Terry (I hope I remembered the name right) talking to Caylan, showing some razors. Caylan is the latest convert to straight shaving guys, he had a well used and abused razor that Ron honed for him so he can start with a great edge.
Ron explaining to Caylan about the need to mute the very sharp heel of Caylan's razor
As I said above, Ron has a very cool set up for looking at edges. That CF on he table is gigantic by the way.
Randy honing a razor for David.
Ron honing Caylan's razor.
I had a great time at the meet up, it was my first ever. I can't recommend enough to folks that have not been to a meet to try and make it to one. So much fun and a great opportunity to learn new things.Last edited by mainaman; 09-21-2015 at 03:34 AM.

Thanked: 3795Lathe, not lather, grinder. Randy has mounted small wheels on spindles that fit in his lathe. He wraps the wheels with sandpaper. Because the wheels are small they can readily fit into the hollow concaves of razors. It is a simple and ingenious design!
