While he regretfully did not make any blades he was there to support all who did or needed help with honing.

In between the Damascus forging I made a couple of kitchen knives when no one was using the forge. One of them is this one. The handle is a bit of frivolous experimenting. I did ascertain that it fits the hand pretty well. After forging I discovered the body had some fatigue cracks due to forging at too low temperature but I finished it anyway. I did an edge quench in water and gave it a workshop finish. I gave it to TC as a thank you for the grilling, and he gave it to Tom Dujardin iirc because he loved it so much.
I tested it on a piece of hardwood plank I found in Charlie's box of offcuts.

Here is a picture of one of the billets I made during my demo.
I started off with a stack of 5 layers, and forgewelded that together.
Then I cut it lengthwise in 2 long pieces. One piece was folded in half and forgewelded again and then twisted lengthwise and squared up again.
The other part was also cut in 2 pieces, to make a stack of 3 pieces with the twisted piece in the middle.
The was then welded up again.
After that, I twisted it again and swuared it up. I don't have a good pic of the result because the pattern is getting too hard to see without heat treatment and polish. I will turn it into a knife and post the results here when it is ready. It should be a lengthwise spiral, with one of the arms itself being a spiral pattern.Til shade is gone, til water is gone, Into the shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath.
