Is there a way to buy leather to make our own strops, not buy them as strops already? That’s what I’m interested in. Anyone who can give some guidance, that would be super appreciated. Thank you in advance
I am very appreciative of all the knowledge and sharing each and everyone has provided me with. Look forward to future endeavors with many of you.

I bought mine at Tandy. I got half a hide and that makes plenty....
The part closer to the back makes better strops than the belly skin.
Strap cutter , bevel tool, hole punches, needles and thread etc.
One of those things that making your own to save money!

I'm finding a lot of leather out there on eBay, Amazon and different other web sites.
The trick seems to be finding the right kind of leather for a strop that is the right weight/thickness.
I haven't a clue about this. It's kinda expensive so I'd really like to get it right.
The link from Diboll shows leather that looks to be all precut. Kinda takes the "making" out of the equation.
The hardware looks good though.

Pete,
You are correct. The link I provided has precut leather for strops. When I built mine I was building a pasted strop and bought my leather at Hobby Lobby. I believe it was actually from Tandy. Quality was not that great and I created a lot of waste getting three good pieces.

Thanked: 292I checked out the Razor Emporium site, but they do not give specs on any of their strop accessories. They do not even state whether this is for 2 1/2" or 3" strops. They do not state the length of the leather strop.
Can anyone who has purchased strop parts from Razor Emporium confirm the size? I do a lot better with 3" strops than I do with 2 1/2", especially with a couple of full 3" blades I own.

For the record, for a handle less strop the length of repair leather/ linen is about 26" 24" if you making your own new strop. trim ends as a final action.Found that out the mismatched ends way!

RayClem,
I just went to the Razor Emporium link I posted earlier and if you scroll down, under description, is the statement "Leather and Canvas dimensions have changed slightly. They are still 3'' wide, and are now just under by 20'' long with the screw holes being 19" apart". Since I bought leather elsewhere I can't verify those dimensions. The holes in the handle and buckle I bought from Razor Emporium fit both the hard felt and premium fabric backings I have from SRD.
Measured a couple of strops I have and they are close to that but not exact. Just bought a Tony Miller strop and it is 18 1/2" between screw holes. My SRD Roo strop and a 1/4" hard felt replacement I bought are both 18 1/4" between screw holes. The SRD 3" Premium IV "Long" strop measures 21 1/4" between screw holes.
My knowledge of Razor Emporium replacement parts is now exhausted.

My first step will be a stop at Hobby Lobby to see if they have any leather that looks and feels right.

Remember, just because you are making a 3 inch strop doesn't mean you need your hanger to be for a 3 inch strap. If you notice the leather piece that holds the hanger is notched where it folds over. This is because the hanger ring isn't 3 inches.
