Ah, now that there is a member list, I'm going to post various items I'll be bringing that might get involved in demo's. This may help others in deciding what they want to bring.
Hones: Norton 220/1k, King 220/1k, "unknown Nakayama," Coti/bbw (at least one) + slurry stone, Asagi (jnat), Thuringian (vintage), C12k
Cleaning: MAAS, Synthetic Steel wool (I forget gauges, but I think 0, 000, 0000), toothpicks, qtips
Razors: Well, I'll bring whatever I think is interesting, but you can rest assured you'll see some big wedges.
As I said before, I'd be happy to demo how I use anything I bring, and I'll answer questions to the best of my ability. (I don't know anything about pyramids, but I do use circles and X's.)
I am not going to bring my camera, because my camera case will be filled with razor things. It would be great if someone could bring a camera, and if you can bring a video camera that would be even better.
Thanks again to the organizers. I can't wait to see my old friends, new friends, and future friends.Last edited by holli4pirating; 02-12-2010 at 06:21 PM. Reason: added some gear back in

Thanked: 151Ok, Here is my list of things I am bringing.
1) Naniwa 1,5,8,12K Super Stones
2) SRD Premium IV extra long
3) My Horse Hide Strops ( if any are left)
4) My vegetable Tanned strops
5) My daily shavers (not impressive) plus any rescales I can finish. Scale Blanks as well.
6) Possible Peening hammer and pins for Demo if desired.
7) Camera
Holli, If you want to park in Westchester you can probably find a spot near my apartment if you don't want to drive in.
Let me know if there are specifics you want me to bring and if I can I will.

I dunno about anyone else, but I'd be interested in seeing a pinning demo, or even just how to tighten up scales that are getting loose.
Thanks for the heads up on parking, but I don't think I'll want to take the train. Unless you mean you're driving and I can ride with you... (not to invite myself)

A re-pinning demo could be cool. Rob and I have been working on some re-scaling. Hopefully we can get some scales ready this week and, if so, I'll wait to pin them at the meet. Might be more of an example of what NOT to do, but we'll see. We had brass rod and the adjustable pins so we can show both of those to people.
On that note, maybe we'll bring over some of the other materials we've been using. Not the heavy stuff, but we just bought a whole bunch of scale and wedge materials so maybe we'll bring them just to show to folks.
Rob, wanna chime in?

Thanked: 151Here are some topics that I am hearing people want to be covered.
1) Stropping
2) Honing
3) Shaving (Captain Obvious Here)
4) Pinning
4) Dremel Use
IF Dylan can cover honing with coticules, eschers, and other hones, I can cover usign the Naniwas, Nortons, and the Chinese 12K as those are all I am familiar with.
I can also do quick pinning and unpinning demo and show my dremel methods.
I want people to understand one thing though. I am a mediocre restorer by in large so all I can demonstrate is basic things to improve razors. Someone needs to bribe Glen, MAx, Brad, or Alex or one of those other guys if you want these magnificent results, but I can handle small things.
Someone send me a time schedule so I can get there slightly early to bring in everything and set up.
Looking forward to it guys!

Yup, I'm cool with talking about the naturals I'm bringing. I've some experience with using slurry, but probably nowhere near as much as anyone who uses Bart's methods. I'd be cool with doing a general "slurry rundown" on the BBW, coti, and nakayama. As for my Thuringian and Asagi, they are just your typical water-only finishing hones, cept they tend to be on the expensive side. I'd say we can do some edge comparisons by taking a single blade from the nakayama to the coti to the thurry to the asagi to the c12k, but honestly, I'm not really sure anyone would be able to tell the difference unless they really know what they're looking for.

I'm so excited for this meet up. I know this is probably very amateur, but I would be very interested in seeing some stropping demos, and lather building as well as all of the honing and everything else mentioned.
I realise the lather sounds silly, and despite getting a comfortable lather, I'm curious if I could be getting better lather out of my soap.
Just a thought from a newbie.

No, it doesn't sound silly at all... We're going to leave plenty of time for folks to try out new things and share their tips outside of the demos. If this is something you want to do, be sure to bring along your brush, bowl, razor and soap so you can get a full shave in and I'm sure you can pick up some new info.
Stropping is definitely going to be covered. I'd suggest bringing yours along, too, just to make sure there are a few there and you can learn on the one you use each day.
