Thanked: 995I will remain easy about how this group comes to consensus as to when we do this. February is good. More lead time. In two days everyone will have a billet done, perhaps worked down to a reasonable size for doing more work at home. I don't expect anyone to get to a blade, but that's entirely possible. When this stuff clicks-on in the mind it can go pretty quick. There is nothing we're going to do that is difficult to understand and I have not yet had a student that failed to understand it.
There are a couple nice motels very near, good food locally. It's been traditional for the razor meet to do some potluck stuff but there has always been an abundance of leftovers.
If anyone wants my real secrets it's going to cost a bucket of dead presidents though.“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power.” R.G.Ingersoll

count me in
I would love to do both things. Feb would be best as I am already booked early Jan. I have lots of dead presidents. My boy paid me partly for a car and he gave me 2 $200 stacks of 2 dollar bills and a $500 stack of fives. He then asked for $50 back to get a deer hunting license! LOL

P.S. The sooner we can agree on a date will make it easier to be sure I have it off. {Without calling in sick!}Last edited by 32t; 11-14-2011 at 02:29 AM. Reason: P.S.

Thanked: 4This sounds really cool! I just found / joined the MN group (pretty new to straights, but enjoying it). I love the idea of forging, have always wanted to learn, but I wouldn't have the skill or equipment to work a piece of billet, even if I had it. Would it be possible to just come learn / meet people?

Thanked: 995Just come and learn and meet people. The forging part is for those who have a bad disease. Not that we won't gladly share it with anyone who could get hooked just watching...

Thanked: 335Mike,
If there is still room at the forge for joining the hammer at, I'd like to be counted in that number. If there is sufficient space to accommodate this blacksmith wannabe, does this wannabe need to bring his own mjolnir?
