Default 2012 Frozen Toe Razor Meet - Minnesota

    Hello All

Randy and I are talking about having another gathering at my shop. We are looking at the calendar for January or February. What we need is recommendations from you folks who are interested in what weekend seems to be the best time to pull folks together.

Randy suggested that I do a damascus/pattern welding class for a couple days on either side of the razor stuff or concurrently. He may be in possession of a waiting list for that but not more than ten folks total.

I can do that easy enough. Cost for that will run 200.00 US and includes gas, electricity and materials. We'll cover all the power tooling operations needed to move steel. I'll discuss heat treatment and any other questions a potential heater and beater may have. You leave with a billet you made that will weigh about 10 pounds. That's a lot of razors.

With three months lead time we should be able to find some weekend this works.

    Mike

Who could say no to that? You are most welcome sir. Bring your cigars and anything else you care to. I've got a green egg and I know that will get Ron's attention if he's watching. I have coffee strong enough to soften teeth and two refrigerators that we can fill with lubricants. What else do we need?

Thanks for the heads-up Mike! I haven't been to Minnesota in a long time and I'm wayyyyyy overdue for a road trip!

I will be number 3 for the metal mushing class. This is my last chance to learn from a true professional.

I will be at the meet for sure. Just say when.

I would like to learn pattern welding, but I'm not sure if I'll be able to make the time for that. I'll have to get back to you...

You guys correct me if I am wrong but I seem to remember that the 3rd week in January is historically the coldest for Minnesota, so lets not plan for that time frame unless you guys really want a "frozen toe" !
I am sure the shop would be warm enough especially with the forge being used. I am just thinking of the guys who will be traveling some distance and who are not familiar with a Minnesota winters cold.

May I suggest Feb 11 & 12 ? Have the razor meet Feb 11 ( one day) concurrent( at the same time) as the 2 day Damascus class.

Or should we have a 3 day event, saturday for the razor meet and sunday & monday for damascus class
or friday & saturday for the damascus class and sunday for the razor meet?
or simply schedule 2 separate dates, one for a one day razor meet and another for the Damascus class.
Mike, it is up to you to say yea or nay to the 3 day ideas or separate dates, you know what it takes for a Damascus class..... you first.....

Late February would work best for me. Not sure about the Damascus piece - money is really tight. Please let me know when you get to full minus two. I will definitely be there for the razor-in portion.

    PS
Oh what the heck - count me in for the class part too - I'll figure something out for the money part. What about Martin Luther King Monday for the 3rd day - that would be Jan. 14, 15 and 16. Or, Presidents' Monday - that would be February 18, 19 and 20 - that would work best for me.
